I'm surprised Mitchell wasn't promoted

Great point on it being hard to crack a gig with those two, I hadn't really thought too much about how consistent Reg and Ted have been and just had a quick squiz- for the last 5 seasons (including this one) they've only missed a combined 16 out of 104 games- and that's mainly because of Ted missing 10 way back in 2010.
Year/Swans Total/Heath/Ted
2014: 6 H06 T06
2013: 25 H25 T25
2012: 25 H24 T25
2011: 24 H20 T23
2010: 24 H24 T14He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

I think at last there is some sense in selections.
BJ whilst not tearing it up in the ressies has real pace is a more likely genuine small forward as he matures. We lack a pacy small forward, the position is his IMO if he can step up.
Mitchell is a gun in the making but doesn't have pace and there are only so many of those you can carry in a midfield without getting exposed. He is best 22 going forward, just not in this week for team balance I reckon.
That is why I think ROK and LRT will see limited games this year and Derickx is on borrowed time once/if the full compliment of talls gets on the paddock.Comment

BJ didn't tear it up in the ones either. No point having pace if can't find the pill and when you do, butcher it. People said last year that he was ahead of his brother at tghis stage of his career. Gone backwards this year. Why would you give Lloyd the vest when he finds the footy and most times delivers. Much harder nut than BJ. On Michell with no pace: lets put him on the market at years end and see 17 other clubs lining up to snare him. Absolute folly to put the slows on him for that reason. Then again I suppose Carlton originally had the same thoughts about Diesel Williams. Mitchell had a couple of average games: so what his average stats last year say that is only a hiccup.Comment

3 genuinely quick players in the side...Jetta, Cunningham and B Jack.
Could it be a clue to a late change....ie : OUT :K Jack (ribs, or should I say "back spasms"), IN :MitchellWhenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

You're being really harsh on some players there. It's like you're expecting a team full of Usain BoltsComment

Must apologise Ernie, I forgot Cunningham. Not enough professional running in the off season.Comment

The team will be better if we could get Garry Rohan back with confidence. I thought after that preseason game against West Coat that he was primed for a good season.
I look at someone like Ryce Shaw who has supreme confidence in his dashing ability and hope that Garry can find the same confidence. Ryce has pace, but Garry would beat him in a sprint.
I see a future with Garry Rohan, Dane Rampe, Alire Alire and Alex Johnson providing thunderous dash out of the back line and being a very dangerous proposition!Comment

I am not surprised to see LRT not in the team. This year he really has struggled to make an impression in a team that has struggled with its own form. I have been a fan of LRT for years and witnessed first hand what a great game he played in 2012, but for a lot of reasons 2014 has not been good for him. I think this will be his last season.
I think that Mitchell should have played in place of Jack and keep him rested for next week.Comment

I think we have seen glimpses that he can recover his best. One or two things a game:
- That first physical contest that he bravely went into against Geelong last year.
- Those two goals against the Hawks in the final home and away game last year.
- Performance against the Docker's in the Prelim.
- Those long goals he hit against West Coast in the pre season game.
- That goal on the run that he hit against Crows as Sub.
It's two years since the injury and confidence seems to be the impediment. I've heard people say that things get better once the pins come out of the leg. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Rohan's pins may come out at the end of the year?
From my observations Rohan looks like he is finding it hard to get enough ball. I'm not sure if he is reading the play correctly. When the ball is 10 metres near him he seems to make an impact defensively and sometimes offensively.
I'm glad is playing off half back in the reserves. I think that gives him a good starting point. I have proposed before for him to be used as a defensive tagger like Crowley, but I think he still gets nerve pain and as a result the endurance is not there.
He is contracted and it's important for the team that he comes good. A fast team of Cunningham, Rohan, Jetta and B. Jack in form will be a dangerous proposition to go with our key forwards and strong midfield.Comment

I would leave Rohan in the reserves for a while. Give him some time to build up some real confidence in his leg and his ability and when he's kicking down the door, then bring him back. Most players take around two + years to get back to their best after leg breaks , Morris, Barlow etc. some never get back to their best. Gaz has yet to even discover what his best footy is!Comment

The Broncos' winger Jharal Yow Yeh was forced into retirement earlier this year due to being unable to recover from a break similar to Gazza's that occurred at a similar time. Very sad as he was a top-notch NRL player. The fact that Gazza is back playing at all is still great news. Give him time.Comment
