If he keeps up his form then give him a go when a spot opens up. I don't get the bit about BJ and speed.. No point running around in circles if you can't get the footy. If Membrey gets 8 possessions like BJ got in his last game then you would think he might snag a few.

I have always been a big fan of Tim and if we lose him to another club it will be a huge loss. Living in West Gippsland I have seen Tim play a few times with Traralgon where he played above his age groups and won a senior premiership while only 16 from memory. I also saw him play a few games with Gippsland Power. I recall a prelim final where he kicked 8 goals and I believe he was only a late inclusion due to injury. Seems he is one of those players that found every step up in grade easy without really having to apply himself. Tim is only just realising the work required to play AFL football. The couple of games reserves games i have seen on replay he has been working really hard up and down the ground and getting some midfield time. He tackles hard! I have no doubts he will be a star in the future. Hopefully it is with us and not another team. I agree with Ludwig. I can see Tippett (and Nank in the future) as a big marking target deep, Buddy roaming the 50 and Tim playing in between or leading out to the open side. Reid looks great as a swingman and I doubt Goodes will be with us next year. Tim deserves a shot with his form this year and we will see a very special player when we do.Comment

I hope you are right. I don't understand all this talk about him being released befere Memat the end of the year. From what I have read about the players in the reverves, I would think that Lockyer would be gone before Membrey.Comment

I'd like to see him play a couple of matches in firsts to see what he can do at that level. The impression I get from others' descriptions is a pocket Plugger, with the advantages and disadvantages that involves: solid build, quick off the mark, good mark of the ball, above average accuracy but not one to be running up and down the field or playing other positions. I think Matt80 raised the question, How versatile can he become? Is his defensive pressure improving? Could he perhaps add another string to his bow as a big midfielder?
When are we going to find out?He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I can only think he may get an opportunity if Goodes needs a rest or gets injured. Even then BJ is probably next in line on recent history. Would be good to give him a game or two to assure him he is in our future plans. That is assuming he IS in our future plans.Comment

it is interesting re Membrey
so much talent but can he play the pressure role as well as lead hard and rotate the leads at AFL level ?
Only one way to find out - throw him in there if we suffer a few injuries to key forwards
At 188cm to succeed as a key forward you have to be something special unless you play very very very tall or are very very very fast or you are very very very fit...........
I think Bradshaw was only 191cm from memory but he was very solid at 95kg plus and could play in the backline or forward both very well.......Bradshaw was taken in the draft at a similar stage as Membrey ie around pick 50?
Membrey is only turning 20 this year and has another pre season and another year with us so who knows ??
But for me Rohan stills offers more but lets find out hopefully cause the kid can play and teams like Freeo and Port are playing smaller forwards with great success last two years !

Just had a look at his profile comments:
We hope in 2014 that his fitness improves first and then his footy continues to get better. Naturally, his goal kicking and his marking is good but it?s the ground level and defensive side of his game that we want to see improve as those are the things that will get him a game in the seniors."be tough, only when it gets tough"

I think the by-product of having a successful on-field club with very few injuries is that there are many worthy footballers who don?t get a game.
Some footballers don?t fit the systems of certain clubs. Tom D and Laidler were delisted from average mid-table clubs, only to become regular senior footballers in a contenting top 4 club.
Membrey may not fit our system as we have an abundance of key forward options (Franklin, Tippett, Goodes, Reid, LRT, Tom Walsh and Mike Pyke). He may be valuable to another club who need a consistent deep Goal-Kicking option. The challenge for the Swans is to try and extract some value for him at the trade table, which will be difficult as he may not have played a first team game.
Another player who may be in danger of leaving in my opinion is Tom Mitchell. Although under contract, he is the sort of guy who desires a lot of first team football. He is not getting first team football at the moment and looks to have been overtaken in the pecking order by Jake Lloyd. He would look at the ages of the key midfielders (Kennedy, Bird, K.Jack, Parker, McKvigh, Hannas, Jetta, McGlynn) and realise that none of them are within two seasons of retirement. The only midfielder to go is ROK, but he had already been replaced in the senior team. Short of guys getting injured how is Tom Mitchell going to get a game? Guys like Cunningham and B.Jack are now getting selected ahead of him due their pace.
He like Membrey may need a change of environment to achieve his potential.Comment

I haven't seen Membrey play, but the discussion on here reminds me of Mitch Morton - kicking a bag in the NEAFL every week, but won't get a gig in the firsts until he gets his defensive pressure up there to match. Hopefully he gets his first run in the quarter final, then kicks two critical goals and sets up the winning goal in the GFComment

It was fun watching Membrey play this week. He has a bit more assurance about where he is, and he is a unit and a half. Was doing so much more than this time last year, positioning well, doing the extra bits that matter. Him and Shane Biggs, and X, and Jones impressed me.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

From the few times I've seen him.....
He has good off the mark pace to get separation on the lead.
He doesn't work hard enough defensively.
From various coaches comments, he needs to improve his overall fitness.
Don't know what his tank is like, but he pretty much plays as a forward in the 2's.
I get the feeling, unless something dramatically changes, he wont get much opportunity with the Swans this season. (Goodes present role would be the most suitable for him )
As someone posted earlier, looks like it may be another Lewis Johnston scenario.Comment

I saw him play on Friday night and I was impressed. He is a strong mark and a great kick.
I have read in previous posts that his speed and fitness were not up to scratch, but from his display on Friday night I thought he was one of the better players. Certainly I would rate him higher than B.Jack (based on Friday night). So I would like to see him get a go before the end of the year so a realistic assessment can be made of his capability.Comment

Just want to make a note: I didn't like Lewis Johnston. Very full of himself, and he has found it difficult to get a game in Adelaide too. Must be a reason.
As for Timmy, He may be one of those blokes who does get traded as he is rateable, has a great attitude, and is still improving. He is working to get better and better. That's why I rate him, big time. Adam can't keep playing. There may be a few holes in the next year to fill. We'll see.
I do hope we can keep the bloke, I like him.If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

I haven't seen any talk about him being released. My point about making a decision on him is that I suspect other clubs will be interested in him and we'll have to make a call on that.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment
