VFL Round 8: Eastlake Demons v Sydney Swans Reserves

    NEAFL 2014 Round 8

Eastlake Demons v Sydney Swans Reserves

    Saturday 17th May 2014 12:00pm
    Startrack Oval

The 1st of only 2 Canberra based games this year. Eastlake, along with the remaining Canberra clubs, have struggled in the new look NEAFL. In particular they have lost star players like Ryan Brabazon, Matthew O'Dwyer to rivals Sydney Uni and the influx of ex-Tuggeranong players doesn't looked like they have filled the gap adequately.

The Swans continue to streamroll the opposition, avenging their Round 2 loss to the Giants in style by the tune of 75 points. With a short injury list at the moment (only Mike Pyke and Alex Johnson are unavailable this week - touch wood!), the Swans will be overwhelming favourites for this match.

    NEAFL Ladder

    Recent Form
    Reserves
    Eastlake
    Past Meetings
    2013
    R16 Eastlake 7.7 (49) defeated by Reserves 15.19 (109) @ Newcastle

Goals: Membrey 5, Towers 3, Fleming, Mumford, Cunningham, Lloyd, Delahunty, White, Webster
Best: Lloyd, White, Biggs, Cunningham, Towers, Membrey

    Last Round
    Reserves 14.16 (100) defeated UWS Giants 3.7 (25) @ ANZ Stadium

Goals: Membrey 4, Towers 2, Roberts-Thomson 2, Perris 2, Nankervis, Hewett, Robinson, Head
Best: Dick, Membrey, Nankervis, Robinson, Jones, Marsh

    ================================================== ====
Eastlake 8.9 (57) defeated by Sydney Hills Eagles 12.15 (87) @ Startrack Oval

Goals: Cummins 2, Clowry, Gibson, Cleaver, Armstrong, Bruce, O'Connell
Best: Halse, Cummins, O'Connell, Mahon, Laing, Bruce

    Team List
    Listed players
    Changes
    In: Naismith
Out: Aliir ALIIR (??? - rested), George HEWETT (??? - rested) Brandon JACK (seniors)

The short injury list means that due to the 18 listed players restriction that comes in to effect when we play non-AFL reserves sides, the unlucky 2 that have missed out this week are Aliir and Hewett. Naismith's return has added to an already bulging forward line with Membrey, Nankervis, Patty Mitchell and LRT all likely to cause headaches for the Demons' defence.

Towers was spotted at the airport with the seniors which means he'll have to make his way to Canberra either late tonight or early tomorrow.

    Academy Players/Topups
    In: Davis, Foote, Foster, Roser
    Out:
    James DUNN, Thomas HEAD

With the NSW/ACT Rams having the week off, this allows the Swans to have another look at Davis and Foote. Foote was BOG in the Rams' loss last weekend. Foster and Roser are both Swans Academy players and make their Swans Reserves debuts.

Thanks Ugg. Wonderful preview again. Just think young Georgie boy & Aliir have been rested to give their young bodies a chance to recover. A very strong side still. Isn't it interesting that all the Qld based and Sydney teams went all out to get strong players and Eastlake went for players from Tuggeranong who were so bad as to be terrible last year. If I was a coach I would be looking to get players who have been at clubs with a strong winning and work ethic. The Canberra based sides have not recruited well at all.

I'll be tweeting from my account at arwon (arwon) on Twitter for most of the match. Might miss some of the end as I head to Ainslie.

As a non Twitter user I'd appreciate some thoughts on RWO if possible. I always like ressie watchers reports over the official politically corrected version!

Indicative of the difference in fitness levels between professional players and amateurs.

Yes 13.3 was certainly better than 10.15. Wonderful last quarter apparently. Arwon was battling to keep up with the scoring LOL. I wonder who were the stars today?

The goal kickers and best are up for Eastlake but not the Swans.

A brief report in the Canberra Times said the Demons played with one man down after Chad Gibson hurt himself in the warmup
