    Contract negotiations

According to Swans put contracts on hold over cost of living allowance uncertainty - sydneyswans.com.au
the following players will be out of contract at the end of the year:

Free agents: Adam Goodes, Nick Malceski, Ryan O'Keefe and Lewis Roberts-Thomson

Out of contract: Mike Pyke, Rhyce Shaw, Craig Bird, Harry Cunningham, Alex Johnson, Jordan Lockyer, Tim Membrey and Xavier Richards

Can't see Membery or Richards X staying. Doubt that Goodes, Malceski, Shaw, Bird, Pyke or Cunningham would be looking for a move.

I hope that membrey and x stay. I think this is likely given they have been at the club for only* 2 years at the end of this season.

There is the possibility that Shaw, LRT, Goodes, ryano all retire at the years end depending on circumstances.

From that list most will either be here next year or not for varied reasons.
Some may retire, some may seek better opportunities with other clubs and the Swans may support this.
Some won't be able to be picked up easily by other clubs (ROK, LRT etc)

For me the danger contracts are those of Pyke and Bird. Pyke less so as if he is not at the Swans next year I dare say the club will do a bit to make sure our ruck stocks are full.
Good to again see the core of the club safe and secure

Of the above lists I wouldn't be surprised if O'Keefe, LRT, Shaw & Lockyer retired or were not offered contracts. The same for Goodsy if his body doesn't hold up or he decides to call it a day.
Personally I would like to see all of the others mentioned retained.

You are most likely right re Goosey LRT and Peb retiring, Goodsey having a limited role, LRT AND Peb in-house coaching the ressies already. But it's not going to leave much of a hole in the current lineup

Mems is my first concern. And Dean Towers.

Couldn't even consider Shaw leaving. Not a chance.

Strange i can't see them losing X. I'm only hearing good things. Our current back dynamic duo are another year older, and he's still young and developing?

I think at this stage that ROK and Jordan Lockyer won't be offered contracts.

I don't think LRT or Shaw will be offered contacts for 2015. It will be like the Geelong decision of late 2013. One of them may get a one year deal depending on list requirements at the end of 2014.

Adam Goodes will be offered a one year deal if he completes 2014 in good health and if he wants to keep playing.

Pyke and Malceski will be offered one year deals. Cunningham and Bird will probably get two year deals.

Alex Johnson will get a one year deal in the hope he can shake off his knee troubles and become a key defender.

X Richards may sneak on as a 3rd year rookie depending on what happens to other players on the rookie list.

Membrey will be offered a two year deal as the forward line in 2015 could see Goodes retired and Reid moved to the back half. He would then become a valuable 3rd attacking sharp shooter backing up Tippett and Franklin.

What is the contact status of Tommy Walsh, Brad Dick or Harrison Marsh?

Up at the end of the year.

Despite his success in the AFL in both Melbourne and Sydney, Walsh doesn?t see himself settling down in Australia.

The All-Ireland medal winner wants to return to Ireland eventually and now, it?s just a case of when. He is out of contract at the end of this year and will see where the talks with the club take him.

After five years in Australia he has reached the crossroads that all Irish AFL recruits eventually face.

?If I?m happy and the club are happy then I might stay on. But at the end of the year it might be time to go home as well,? he says.

?I haven?t really made up my mind about it.?

Agree with this analysis Matt. When we win the premiership this year the younger players won't want to go anywhere. They know they are next in line

Re the need (or not ) for some form of COLA for Sydney players, there was a recent interesting article about Everitt and his move to Carlton. I know he defended the COLA earlier in the year but he said a bit more this time.

"Indeed, Everitt argued vehemently that the often-ridiculed and recently culled Cost of Living Allowance was more than just a thinly veiled scheme to assist the Swans. Recently engaged and hoping to start a family at some point, he argued that making ends meet could be challenging for players in Sydney making less-princely sums, and that despite being offered a contract by the Swans, financial considerations steered him to Visy Park.

"The cost of living in Sydney is pretty expensive; it's pretty hard for the young rookie players and people on the fringe not getting a game every week to make a good living out of it," Everitt said.

"I just had to weigh up my situation, and it probably came to a point where moving back down to Melbourne was my best bet."

to me the issue is whether X or Membery think that they are a chance of getting games?where are they in the pecking order, and might they fancy their chances elsewhere.

I figure X is line to replace his brother in due course. Sure, Membrey would find it easier to get a game at St. Kilda, but most players would prefer to prove they are good enough to help take a good side to a premiership. Why couldn't he become a slightly smaller version of Jack Darling? I think we could find room for him in the side.

As for the rest of the list, I don't see anyone leaving the Swans on their own volition.
