Do these muppets have any idea how many recycled and rookie draft players we have in our best 22 at the moment? How many top 10 draft picks we haven't had the last 10 years and how we have built our list?

From the game against Essendon on friday night.

Jeremy Laidler (Delisted Rookie pick), Ted Richards (Traded) , Nick Smith (Rookie pick)

Rhyce Shaw (Traded), Heath Grundy (Rookie pick), Nick Malceski (Pick 64)

Kieren Jack (Rookie pick), Harry Cunningham (Rookie pick), Dane Rampe (Rookie pick)

Lewis Jetta (Pick 14), Kurt Tippett (Free Agent), Jake Lloyd (Rookie Pick)

Adam Goodes (Pick 38), Lance Franklin (Free Agent), Luke Parker (Pick 40)

Tom Derickx (Rookie Pick), Josh Kennedy (Traded), Jarrad McVeigh (Pick 5)

Dan Hannebery (Pick 30), Craig Bird (Rookie Pick), Sam Reid (Pick 38)

    SUB Brandon Jack (Rookie Pick)

So 9 of our best 22 were rookie picks, 3 of our best 22 trades, and the rest either free agents or top 30-60 draft picks, Jetta, Buddy and Macca aside.

Granted we have had the COLA which has helped us bring in some big fish, but no other club would have had the bollocks to bring in a footballer on a 9 year deal and make the big calls which could pay off. No risk, no reward. About time we were given more credit in the media for how our side has been built regardless of Buddy and Tippett. Mugs in the media have short memories. GO THE BLOODS.
Great summary Pants Man. Are there other clubs with two or more big name players signed since Free Agent rules were introduced?

My boss in the last few weeks continues to ask me how it feels to buy a premiership. I remind him how his beloved Cats bought 3 of them with half a dozen father son recruits.

Not necessarily, but blokes like Goddard, Dal Santo, Chapman have all left to join other clubs.
LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.

Agree jono. I find myself questioning whether it's worth trawling thru all the garbage, thread after thread, by those desperate to be heard, just to read stuff worth actually reading.

It's a shame, but I guess when it gets to that stage, the call is strong to have a break from the site....

The Hawks could possibly been more creative with negotiating with Buddy. If the Hawks knew that all roads for Buddy led to Bondi, why did they not propose an arrangement where Buddy could live in Bondi and fly interstate to play for the Hawks on the weekends. He could have trained during the week at a local Eastern Suburbs club like a UTS Bats a UNSW or a Sydney Uni. They could have Video Conferenced him in for team meetings and game reviews. They could have mobilised medical personal in Sydney to make sure his body was in good nick.

In the mid 90s, Chris Langford worked in Sydney, played for the Hawks on the weekend and trained with the North Shore Club during the week.

If the Hawks had offered Buddy a bit less $ 700,000 - $ 800,000 a season, but allowed him to have a Bondi Fly in Fly Out arrangement, then I think he could have been very tempted to continue at the Hawks.

This would breach modern non-negotiable leadership group protocol, but sometimes you need to find creative arrangements with special players. The Swans proposed the most creative arrangement and won.
Matt80, you've posted some interesting perspectives, but that surely is on the 'just a little loony scale'. I hardly think the Bondi factor is even remotely true, let alone a key factor, and in today's setup of footy clubs, such an arrangement simply would not work.

As Meg has stated, it?s highly likely that Buddy wanted to move to Sydney during 2013 for personal reasons.

If the fly in fly out method worked for Chris Langford, why could it not work for Buddy?

Buddy may still be a Hawks player if the "Langford Solution" was proposed. I?m sure he would still be an elite player with this arrangement.

There's just the little matter of the difference in salaries being offered by the two clubs.

So you'd have the highest paid player in the comp living in a different city?

Also, Langford retired nearly two decades ago. Things have changed. We did it with Minton-Connell too I think - you just couldn't do it now.

I have no doubt that his move, at least in part, was due to 'personal reasons'. That part is believable - the 'bondi factor' and 'eastern suburbs lifestyle dividend' are much less so.

I'm not convinced a fly in fly out situation would really work in these days of far more professional football.

Swanpant, in reply to the original intent of this thread ... I hear the same BS when I regularly travel to Melb (and always wear my Swans Premiers cap). At first I tried using the same sound logic as you do. The sad truth is that people will believe what they want to believe and then find selective facts to support it. There is no arguing them out of it. I take it as a backhanded compliment that the Swans are progressively becoming the target of more of this type of stuff ... IMO it means we are increasingly feared as a threat. Never heard this vitriol from the other clubs/supporters when we were the easy-beats.

More like selective opinions, usually an Eddie McGuire opinion, disguised as fact. Its classic influencing the agenda.
