The argument that one racist comment substantiates some of the other rash generalisations written here is ridiculous...

I wonder how many of these people would voice their opinions without sitting behind a user name and football team avatar?
There are always going to be these kinds of people making racist comments. Always.
Just like there will always be people making sexist or homophobic remarks. Always.
The more these instances are highlighted, the more society is held back from moving forward. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

Of course it doesn't reflect the views of the entire Essendon supporter base. To suggest that it does would be plainly ridiculous, but it's very clear that racism remains a problem in this country. Identifying instances of it is not "playing the racist card". It's directing our attention to where it needs to go.Bloods

Exactly. I can't grasp how people believe he is being boo'd by 1000's of people because he is aboriginal. It's because he is better than them and their team. It burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrnssssss..Comment

Gary Ablett was booed by Norf fans a few weeks ago. I assume it's because he's white?..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

Lordy the fun of booing Wayne Carey (Boo a Roo. Remember that particular marketing brainwave? Not long after they sent membership applications to Swans supporters, we had just cause, however Bruce was horrified).
Even more fun to boo Matthew Richardson, you could put him right off his game. Ashamed of that now, he is a bit of a sweetie.
Booed a Mateira right out of a game once, thought it was wonderful at the time, but now not so impressed with myself.
Happily boo the little monster from Freo, but that just encourages him, so temper it a bit.
Couldn't imagine booing Gary Ablett though. That would be just plain rude.

Having watched the footy with you for 20 years you would agree that it is very rare to hear Swans supporters boo a footballer, unless he does some darstardly act.But to continue to boo that player the next season doesn't happen from Swans supporters. It would be interesting to find out why the pack mentality exists with some clubs but not others.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment

I do find it remarkable how we as Australians find it so difficult to face up to the racism that pervades our culture. There's definitely an element of denial in this.Comment

I usually despise Ballantyne but I was impressed by his discipline Saturday. The private bollocking Lyon gave him after his latest suspension (for incidents against Rhyce Shaw) must have been even stronger than his public remarks. And when he leaves out the nonsense Ballantyne is a wonderful player as he showed Saturday. I suspect dimelb is right about Kirk's influence.Comment

I was pretty down on these two a few years ago when they scragged us all day at the SCG while getting leg-ups left, right and centre from Razor Ray. Now, however, I have a great deal of respect for both of them.
If there's a better small forward running around than Ballantyne, let me know and Crowley is probably the best stopper/tagger in the AFL. Both pretty important roles in our game, so I enjoy watching them play.Comment
