I think Ronan and Jack have been given plenty of opportunity and neither of them showed enough to retain their positions in the squad. If there weren't others that had been performing so well and consistently in the ressies then I would think differently but membrey should make his overdue debut and pyke back in the squad. How Jack and Rohan have gotten several games each this year and Membrey hasn't is starting to become concerning.

Hopefully injury concerns fade during the week when we hear more... Teddy also looked quite sore at one point during the end of the game but he is a battler and looked better at the end.

We always replace like for like, so it will be a midfielder for Hanners and I expect the quickest of those available.

People have been critical of Brandon Jack but I think he is showing good signs. He is a lovely long left foot kick and has great pace and defensive skills. You could notice live how effectively he tracked back and cut off dangerous wide runs. I liked the passage in the second quarter where he hit Franklin with a great pass, Franklin dropped the pass but Jack followed up and laid a Garry Jack stinging tackle on Franklins opponent.

There is a lot to like about Brandon Jack. In two years time he will be a better version of Adam Snieder!

The review of our rookies that appeared on the website during the week nominated Robinson as top of the list to get a game if a spot opened up in the midfield. The only issue is that they would have to use the available rookie spot for him, and they might want to keep that in case we get desperate and need to elevate Naismith or Richards. Neither of those seem overly likely at the moment though. So maybe Dan will get his chance.

He's probably the closest direct replacement for Hanners in terms of physical traits and game style. Obviously we can't come in and expect him to play at Hanners' level. Others are going to need to take up the slack.

The alternative is to stack the forward line with another forward, and reduce the amount of time McVeigh and Jack are playing there. I certainly wouldn't be disappointed to see Membrey get a chance.

Three debutants in one game? No chance.

Of course they will match committee will be conservative. That has been well proven all year.

            OUTS: Hanners Rohan
            IN: ROK Pyke

Personally id love to see membrey given a chance but I doubt that is going to happen this year. We will wait and see

              Agree on both counts.

It's just what I would do, but I'm far less conservative than Longmire. Also, because it's Richmond, I feel the risk is very low. And the 3 seem clever for their age (a la Lloyd) and are not exactly skinny kids.

What I most want to see is OUT: Derickx.

There have been plenty of signs of what BJ can do, but he is not doing it anywhere near consistently enough in the seniors at the moment to be in the 22. He had those moments yesterday as you described, but there were also several 'deer in the headlights' sort of moments too. I know he will be a fine player for us, but he is not quite doing enough in the Seniors, and no matter how good we might be going, we shouldn't be carrying players in the top 22.

Guys , seriously, ROK is finished. LRT is as well unless we have a seriious injury to ted or reg.

Rohan is in our best 22, but concerns about whether his leg can play week in week out football.

BJ must be running out of chances.

Nankervis is not ready for AFL and is a long way behind Pyke and Tom.

Lets be serious. The only fringe players pressing for selection are mitchell and maybe membrey.

                    In - Pyke, Membrey
                    Out - TD, Rohan
                    BJ sub

Still think Reid will play best in defense. Perhaps that happens next year.

I don't think you can drop Derix until Pyke shows he can run 80% of the game. From what people are saying Membrey for Rohan (he seemed to pull out of some confronting physical contests and fair enough! Didn't seem ready).

I'm sure BJ will get many more chances and one day he will make good, but maybe not for another couple of years.

I'm sure Nankervis is not ahead of Pyke, but it's difficult to be a long way behind Tom. I think it's a critical test that we need to make to see exactly where Toby stands at the moment. He can certainly take a strong mark and is an excellent kick for goal, which is not a bad start. He's put together a number of strong performances now. My guess is that Tom is somewhere between Naismith and Pat Mitchell.

There may be several reserves players pressing for selection, although Membrey and Robinson seem in the best position. As Liz pointed out, Robinson poses a rookie elevation dilemma. We should remember that Dan was only slightly behind Jake Lloyd, and we can see how well Jake has done. Biggs, Jones, Lockyer and Dick have all played well this year and I wouldn't mind seeing any of them in the side in 'non-critical' games.

If we want to look after Pyke with the end of the season in mind I don't think playing him this week as the sole ruckman is the way to go. I thought Derickx was ok v Geelong and GCS, he was actually getting positive comments from some of the commentators one game but is obviously feeling the strain. It is goring to be a very interesting time at the selection table this week.

I agree that it would be good for Rohan to play a full game but if he is not up for it, can the team without Benny and Hanners cover him? We discount Richmond at our peril. No one foresaw a Bulldogs or Melbourne win this weekend.

What can you say about Mitchell! A spot is there for the taking and he is sidelined with yet another injury. It must be so disheartening for him.

I wonder if BJ is getting games now so that they can try and get him up to speed (!) for the finals. That could be the same plan for GR. The game vs Port may have sharpened that focus. If this is the case it is a bit tough for players like Membrey, Robinson and Biggs who are playing so well in the ressies but can't get a toe in. I understand that Jones is great defensively, how does he compare with say Biggs or Robinson for speed?

I understand ludwigs dismay about derickx, but I seriously encourage anyone with a more open mind to watch the game again and pay attention to ports decision to have a third man up for most of the game after the first quarter and note that we did nothing about it either in the midfield or from coaches.

He has been beaten in the centre square every match, but teams (even at the scg) are not breaking from there and scoring goals. That makes sense because if you think you are likely to lose centre square you set everything up structurally on that basis.

On the other hand around the ground he has been fine. Clearly he has no vertical leap but once he causes contact he is fine so much so that port changed their tactics and we didn't respond.

I wouldn't be against dropping him, but you can't have champions on every line, and I really don't think pyke is all that much better against the good ruck men in the centre square and as I have said elsewhere he is very predictable with his ruck work and the first half of the year showed him labouring around the ground.

Rohan has not showed enough to warrant a full game. Gets knocked off the ball while chasing or in marking contests far too easily. Needs to work on his core strength before getting a full game. If Jetta got injured then he could replace him. If Rohan is playing in defense in the reserves I don't see why we pick him in the seniors and play him forward. Pointless.
