I didn't know we were paying Allir that much haha!

He's an odd one Nic Nat - looks amazing one moment, utterly awful the next. He's been in the system a long while now, and I don't think he is that good yet. His work around the ground and in clearances is very good, but his ruckwork is very hit and miss.

Highly unlikely. He's not tall enough and to my knowledge has never been a ruckman. His leap might be okay for centre bounces but you need height around the ground. They've definitely got high hopes on him big a key position backman though.

This - still a bit of a way to go for our rookie ruckmen. Plus a couple of half decent rucks in Ressies are important for our youngsters' midfield development...

Allir has played in the ruck before converting to defence. He is the same height as Jeff White, who I think epitomizes the perfect modern ruckman (although surely some will disagree). But Allir is no Jeff White, unfortunately. Adam Goodes was an incredible ruckman at only 191 cm. If you are an elite footballer and can complete in the ruck, you are a very special talent. There are not many around.

Jim Stynes brought rucking forward leaps and bounds. He used to accumulate 30 possessions in his better games and rucked the whole day.

There has not been a ruckman who continued his progression until Adam Goodes in 2003, but he was a good 10cm shorter than Stynes.

Now ruckman typically don't get more than 15 possessions.

One will emerge at some point who will be around 204-206cm with the power, athleticism, agility and ability of Patrick Dangerfield. When that occurs, that player will be the most valuable player ever to play the game.

Before last night's performance I was all for keeping TomD in. Myke's game reminded us why he is considered our #1 ruckman (but up until then he had had a season that rightly or wrongly had a few of us wondering if he still had "it").
I am still v hopeful that TomD can continue his improvement but as for the question " Mike v Tom", I lyke Mike.

Mike had a very restricted pre-season, and then got injured a few weeks back. Pretty much any player struggles when they can't get the training time into their legs. I am sure we all remember Mummy's efforts for us over the years when he's not been fit. Great player when he is fit, but like the rest, struggles when he's carrying an injury or hasn't been able to train consistently.

I like mike. He looked good last night especially considering that he's still very underdone training wise from injury and Mumford has been in blistering form for the last few weeks.

Pyke was very good last night. Let's not overlook how hard Tom toiled away for weeks as our lone ruckman though.

Tom did a good job, especially when he was almost a total novice at this level. Now it's back to school to keep learning his trade. And we'll benefit from it.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)
