Membrey will get a gig. Goodsey will see the writing on the wall loom large, and being an intelligent man will know 'its time'. We will keep Tim. He is valued by all.

Giving Membrey a senior game or two isn't going to be the difference between him staying or going next year. Either he sees the succession plan and the premiership window or he chases the money ala Jed Lamb, who got a dozen games and still didn't stick around.Comment

The Swans are in the box seat due to the ongoing success of the club. Some senior games won't hurt the Swans prospects of keeping him.Comment

If love to see membrey get a few games in the seniors this year as I still think the allure of a premiership can be an attractive incentive. Obviously it wasn't for Jed but it maybe for other players. And I'm sure the fans would love to see him too. Then there's the trade opportunities. I'm sure a player with even a few senior games is more attractive at the trade table if it came to that. I hope not personallyComment

Tim Membrey will be in his last year of his 3 year contract in 2015..............I cant see us letting him go given the hard work we have put in and given he hasnt played Snrs yet so if we are going to trade it would need to be at the end of 2015. But above all, Tim still has a lot of potential as a forward or back convert like Grundy or a Josh Gibson.
Funny enough with the way the game is going I have thought about Josh Gibson at 189cm and 92kg or Michael Firrito (almost identical to Membreys build) and wondered whether Tim Membrey may switch to a 3rd defender if he cant make it as a medium sized forward. I could easily see Membrey doing a Laidler type role for the Swans.
ie Josh Gibson (now 30yrs of age) had a late career bloom and has become such a great second or third/loose defender
It wasnt till Gibo was around 23yrs of age (2007) playing for North and shutting down Franklin (previous game that season Buddy had scored 7 goals on North) that people started to notice his potential............end of 2009 season the HAwks offered picks 25 and 41 for Gibson and Norths pick 69
Funny enough the Hawks picked up Taylor Duryea with pick 69 and he played 18 games in 2013 after 4 years with the Hawks in the lower grades.Last edited by Auntie.Gerald; 28 June 2014, 10:08 AM."be tough, only when it gets tough"

If I was management I'd say to him keep playing well in the two's and building your fitness and we'll offer you a one year extension next year and if you're not happy with the amount of senior time you're getting (after Goodes retires) you can move on.Comment

By the way, what pick did we get for the 12-game Jed Lamb? Pick 48?
I'd rather do what we can to hang on to Membrey than try and make him worth a lottery +30 pick.
All that said if Goodes is indeed out Membrey seems like a logical replacement. I just don't think we should be bending over backwards to give him playing time. Our long term positional problems aren't in our forward line but in our defence and half-back positions.Comment

Goodesy will certainly be gone after this year. His knee is shot. I believe it's bone on bone. I think that Membrey would fit in perfectly but he needs to improve his fitness levels.Comment

It's the clubs that then get together to work out a deal. GWS were in no mood to deal with us, having been left at the alter by Buddy.
They refused to offer anything knowing they would pick him up in the PSD.
Time will tell whether or not they have shot themselves in the foot. At this stage he's shown little return on their money.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Lewis Johnston, Lamb, Veszpremi - at least we figured out they should be moved on.
Membrey's best chance would be Goodes retiring, but the way he's going Adam is probably good for another year. So for once Gary Lyon is right- Membrey would be a ripe target. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment
