Let's see what Gary offers next year as I think he still has a rod in his leg that is coming out after the season? A full pre season unaffected by that and then work out where his best position is.

He has extraordinary skills, blinding pace and a kamakasi tackle so just need to settle him where it best suits the side rather than moving him everywhere.

i think lik a few players such as HarryC, Reid etc Gary will probably get a little time down back as well as up front and he could certainly challenge for a best 22 in 2015

Plus, Gary's faster than Jetta, according to Jetta himself. That kind of pace is worth looking after.

But is that after or before he broke his leg?

From what I recall, Mick Turner, his old Falcons coach, said that Rohan was a better player than Ablett at the same age. I believe that Turner is prone to talk up his pupil prior to recruitment but its still a huge complement.

At this stage I continue to wonder just what it is with Gary Rohan ... injuries notwithstanding ... occasional (sorry, rare) bursts of speed and great goals notwithstanding ... this guy just doesn't provide a skerrick of evidence that he will ever be a ball getter in the AFL ... perhaps he needs a psychologist to bring forward the great potential that some see?

He is playing the hardest position on the ground with very little joy at the moment. Goodes had ten possessions on the weekend (for three goals, one of which was a run past the contest goal). Gary never runs past the contest. he goes and tackles the first guy and then chases the next and then the next. he had eight possessions.

I am not worried about his possession gathering in terms of the numbers at the moment. He is playing in front of the ball as a bit of a get out kick. He is often playing in the space where it is him versus 2-3 others.

On the other hand I am more worried that he gets outbodied a bit too easily and gets knocked off the line of the ball very early. That does mean that he doesnt get some possessions but it also often leads to his opponent getting first hands on the leading to him chasing player after player.

he is very see ball and go to ball rather than initiate contact to give himself space to get the ball.

The thing I would like to see from him is the ability to lock the ball in a bit more and to really impact the play. The tackle that led to the free where shannon hurn got over the shoulder was the opportunity for him to line hurn up and hit him squarely around the waist and knock him into the fence.

He makes every defender have a look and dispose the ball a little bit quicker and gives our players the opportunity to get to the contest through his pressure, but he does need to actually kill the ball more often.

in him. clearly overawed on that occasion. Disheartening to see that sort of play at the game. At that time the swans needed a buffer. Things were still tense at that stage.
That's a relatively harsh reading, Nolie. I was urging him to have a ping, but I didn't overly mind the idea to kick to Franklin- when Gary got the ball I'm sure the only folks in the F50 were Lance and his defender, they just didn't have the timing right (both Lance to lead and Gary to try to hit him up) and it gave West Coast a chance to get back.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

                  .

Jetta said that a couple of weeks ago. Though he didn't say over what distance.

Michael Barlow took 18 months to return to his pre leg fracture form. And his is a game built more on smarts and inside ball winning. His fracture was not as bad as Gary's, whose strengths are speed and spring.
He needs more time, but needs to play to get his body and mind to be able to put it together.

It was very poor play by Rohan. He made it very clear to the defenders that he was never going for the goal. As a result Buddy had to present but the defender was wearing him like a glove. His kick to Franklin was an absolute shocker, clearly the kick of someone down on confidence.

I'm not suggesting it was great- but I think it's a harsh reading of a moment. If memory serves, big key forward was all alone with his defender in the F50, and guy who was about 55 out looked to hit him up- it wasn't well executed, it took too long and it was easy pickings for a defender flooding back. If he hits up Buddy for a mark from a good kick I think people view it as taking the right option and doing the team thing.

Gazza did well tonight and it was a joy to see him celebrate that goal.

He competed strongly and he did look good rebounding off half back. We need to keep him in the team as he'll get better and more confident with each outing.....

Gazza was awesome tonight... played forward and back and did well on both sides.
Can't ask for much more from the kid.

I think gazza showed something last night that we have been waiting for. He still has only 38 afl games but most of those were pre injury. 12 games post injury so he's almost like a 12 gamer. As I said I think he showed a lot of potential of half back. One or two missed tackles but I know he's gonna get better at that. I would keep him in next round depending in who comes back from injury. Long term I think he takes shaws position

He continues to improve bit by bit, week by week. That great goal will give him some more confidence - lets hope he can build on last night and continue to regain confidence in the fsntastic ability he has.
