If Mal left as a free agent wouldn't we get a compensation pick? And given that he will probably be AA this year, shouldn't it be a first rounder?
Big name yet to re-sign

AA status doesn't factor in draft compensation. Size of contract, length of the contract and player age is used to calculate the pick you get. I think we'd probably get a second rounder at best considering Hawthorn got pick 19 for Buddy's mammoth contract.Comment

Buddy's was a first round compo pick which was the most they could give. Carton got a higher pick for Thomas because they finished lower on the ladder. But I agree that it is more likely to be a late second round pick, similar to the DalSanto compo the Saints got.
I would hate to see Mal leave, and don't believe he will, but he is 30 next month and I'm sure with the depth of our midfield, the ability for Macca to play back and the obvious quality of Zak Jones, we will be fine, even if Rhyce retires as well.
But I'm sure Eddie McGuire will be screaming his head off that we already have too many benefits and shouldn't get any compensation at all.Last edited by Ludwig; 11 July 2014, 01:46 PM.Comment

Shaw is in great form and i see no reason why he wouldn't play on.
Malcheski is a star.
I don't accept the whole "we'd all hate to lose him, but if we have to..."
For me he's a necessary part of the team moving forward and we should do all we can to keep him.
I'll be not very happy if he goes.

Mal playing in a team without Shaw? Don't think so. He is part of the fabric of the team.
However, Peb and LRT not likely to stay. That frees up quite a bit. Peb seems more than happy to be a foodie. If you've never jumped from one couch to the other to save yourself from lava then you didn't have a childhoodComment

ROK and LRT leaving is not going to free up salary cap space. I don't think the club would have budgeted ROK and LRT into their 2015 or 2016 cap.Comment

Shaw will be 33 in October. I'm not saying he can't go on, but I have a feeling he might be facing a ROK kind of year. I would prefer to see him go out with a premiership to end a great career than to go on one year too many.Comment

Malceski certainly isn't playing like he is unhappy.Comment

and i would never have guessed that Lloyd would be in the team ahead of ROK and or Mitchell in 2014 !
I agree with you Van

I didn't want to post in this thread as the whole thing is based off unverified comments spat out on a poorly rated VIC only show with unimportant people
