Interesting to watch EgregiousEddie gathering allies.

Somehow he has managed to suborn Peter Gordon from the Bulldogs to assist him - presumably he threatened to scupper the wealth tax/equalisation fund completely (he and Newbold had already diluted it) - and the dogs are desperate enough to accept crumbs because they fear getting nothing.

Now EgregiousEddie has the mendacity to try to rope in the Tasmanians, by claiming the QLD and NSW clubs kept them out of the AFL.

In both cases he has no interest in his new allies actual cause, he's merely turning them into cats paws for a temporary advantage. They're being suckered.

Pridham's comparing him to Clive for the purposes of ridicule, but I believe the better comparison would by Alan Jones or Steve Price.

For those who haven't seen the print version of the Tele today, this is the pic they chose to run with the story:

The problem with this stuff is it gives him oxygen.

He will no doubt use this to continue his Swans bashing every chance he gets.

I prefer the approach of mostly ignoring him, then occasionally discredit him with clear examples of his misrepresentation of the truth.

This caption, though funny, is at the level where he's most comfortable.

I agree but I'm not sure what alternative the Swans have.

Eddie ripped the heart out of Brisbane and everyone sat by and watched.

I just think that rather than taking the piss out of him. Which is tempting and easy to do.

The Swans should target specific untruths, and clear examples of blatant self interest and hypocrisy.

There's nothing he likes more than a dirty scrap, and unfortunately he has the media at his disposal and he knows how to use it.

Target the media? and shame them into not doing their jobs properly and being influenced by the boys club.

                I'm afraid that's fanciful thinking.

As I said before, IMO, targeting examples of blatant bull, self interest and hypocrisy would be far more useful.

Eddies a bottom feeder, he has plenty of friends in footy media who will go with him, railing against the dominant Swans, no matter what he says.

Like... King, Brereton, Barrett, the turd from the footy show, the turd from his Sunday show, etc etc

I see him as a bully.
The Victorian clubs have let him get away with it for years and he has turned into a tyrant. The Swans will not bow down and we are a critical part of the AFL TV rights strategy.

We have power - we should not be afraid to use it.

I think Pridham was a little too personal but I suspect it's a case of the new kid in school smashing the bully in the face on his first day. around.

At the moment this is just a minor tabloid controversy but if Eddie is seriously collecting some kind of Victoria vs the rest coalition it will be disaster. I wonder what the coaches will say about it over dinner at Gil's tonight.

Made a comment and the press will run with it.
Eddie needs someone to publicly smack him in the face and divert the attention and spotlight onto him for a change (although he'd probably enjoy that, any press is good press)
I am enjoying the Eddie bashing.
And well to to Longmire for what he did, and the way he handled it (not wanting to work with Eddie)

                        Update:

Eddie whinged on air that the Swans opposed the entry of GWS and dissed Priddo for being around for just 5 minutes.

                        Pridham response on Twitter:

Eddie @sydneyswans voted for @GWS_Giants. I was at the meeting and voted. You must have been asleep in that meeting. Tell the truth

Been on @sydneyswans for 13 years not 5 minutes. Perhaps Eddie has been around too long?

                        Total smackdown.

How condescending of Eddie to ask who Andrew Pridham is. He knew exactly what he was saying.

Whenever someone else stands up to him he reacts personally... (like he did to the Geelong official when they questioned the equalisation cap).

Agree, but as I've said before there is a much bigger issue at hand.
Collingwood have SO MUCH free to air coverage, that they are consolidating not only their livelihood, but a very very rich revenue stream for years to come.
                            How?
                            Supporters.
If a kid wants to watch the football, there's a good chance that when they turn the TV on they will be watching the magpies play.
The exposure Collingwood are receiving is setting them up for life

Thanks god they are floundering at the moment.

Simply from an AFL perspective, not from a Swans perspective, the league cannot afford to have Eddie around any more. They need to issue him a lifetime ban. He is working against everything the league is trying to do and is costing millions for all concerned. He's a very shallow thinker (max one sentence at a time) that has managed to reach the top of the Blabosphere, as seems to happen all too often in Australia.

As has been mentioned, he was instrumental in unraveling the progress made in Brisbane because they beat Collingwood, and will now cost millions in bailout funds.

He bullies his way into getting all the best fixtures in Melbourne at the expense of the poorer clubs, thus exacerbating the wealth inequalities, again leading to AFL bailouts.

He is doing his best to destroy the $100 million plus expansion into the northern states by disparaging every move that would help make footy a national game.

Whether he is a racist or not is beside the point, but we can't have such a high profile AFL personality making racist remarks and then go on like nothing has happened.

He thinks he can get away with calling John Longmire unaustralian on national tv. It's not that it's our coach, but why should be permitted to say this about any AFL coach or player while holding the presidency of Collingwood?

There is no account for the fact that he is the president of the biggest and richest club in the AFL and then criticising in public everything he doesn't like. In his position it is well and truly bringing the game into disrepute. That is exactly what it is. He is diminishing the reputation of the game in NSW and Queensland and working toward their failure. He is telling indigenous Australians that they shouldn't come into this game, because we are going to have a crack at you if you succeed. There is no limitation on his capacity to influence the football agenda because of his numerous and pervasive roles he has in media. If he wants to critique the policies of the AFL, he should quit Collingwood and become a full time journalist.

I have said it before and I will say it again. He is a blight on the game. Like was done to the former owner of the LA Clippers, Donald Sterling, Eddie should be banned from AFL footy. We don't need dictators in this game.

I think Eddie is probably relishing the fact that people are having a go at him. I think he truly believes that he is the only one with the courage to stand up for what he believes is right. Some of the other club presidents are probably feeling the same way as Eddie but are letting him cop the flack for it. This will feed Eddie's martyr complex.

We mustnt forget that most club presidents are successful business people in their own right and are therefore not used to losing or having their egos trampled on. Watching this is kind of like watching a clash of business leviathans and should not only be tremendous fun, but also a great insight into how the rich and famous wage war.
