I wonder if Channel 9 would consider Eddie a successful business person. Did not last too long in the CEO chair.

Thanks Erica. Even though it gives air time to Eddie, I love it. Especially the lead banner!

He's a very shallow thinker (max one sentence at a time) that has managed to reach the top of the Blabosphere, as seems to happen all too often in Australia.

As has been mentioned, he was instrumental in unraveling the progress made in Brisbane because they beat Collingwood, and will now cost millions in bailout funds.

He bullies his way into getting all the best fixtures in Melbourne at the expense of the poorer clubs, thus exacerbating the wealth inequalities, again leading to AFL bailouts.

He is doing his best to destroy the $100 million plus expansion into the northern states by disparaging every move that would help make footy a national game.

Whether he is a racist or not is beside the point, but we can't have such a high profile AFL personality making racist remarks and then go on like nothing has happened.

He thinks he can get away with calling John Longmire unaustralian on national tv. It's not that it's our coach, but why should be permitted to say this about any AFL coach or player while holding the presidency of Collingwood?

There is no account for the fact that he is the president of the biggest and richest club in the AFL and then criticising in public everything he doesn't like. In his position it is well and truly bringing the game into disrepute. That is exactly what it is. He is diminishing the reputation of the game in NSW and Queensland and working toward their failure. He is telling indigenous Australians that they shouldn't come into this game, because we are going to have a crack at you if you succeed. There is no limitation on his capacity to influence the football agenda because of his numerous and pervasive roles he has in media. If he wants to critique the policies of the AFL, he should quit Collingwood and become a full time journalist.

I have said it before and I will say it again. He is a blight on the game. Like was done to the former owner of the LA Clippers, Donald Sterling, Eddie should be banned from AFL footy. We don't need dictators in this game.
That is a terrific post Ludwig and deserves to be published somewhere. Any way to send this to the AFL hierachy?

This is just the way McGuire likes it, trading insults, dressing his arguments up with lies. The bar is low with this guy.

I hope the Swans sit back now , let him blow his trumpet for a day or 2.

Then hold a press conference, he will give them plenty of material to work with.. Pick off his lies 1 by 1. Show clearly where his self interest and hypocrisy sit in the argument.

If they do it calmly and methodically..He will be exposed, even to those who barrack for him.

would it be a fair comment............ that if Eddie was as truly passionate about rubbing out racism he would be positioning that message in the media equally ?

Eddie has not once said this is what the strategy for the AFL should look like !

All Eddie has done is try and rip apart what is the current structure and take aim at anyone outside his opinion !

Clive Palmer should be outraged being likened to such a dog like Eddie. I hope he strikes back.

I agree with Eddie on one thing: The AFL should step in and settle this dispute: by giving Eddie a lifetime ban. He can't be allowed to continue his tirade of lies, insults and racist slurs. Get him out of the game completely.

Just more routine one-eyed ranting from McGuire. Not even the merest suggestion of even-handedness. Does he ever stop to think, to reflect, or does he just blurt out every thought that passes through his mind without considering whether it is true or not, or even worth saying at all?

There is absolutely no coherent thread in what he is saying here, other than his obvious desire to harm the Swans and a self-pitying tone. He appears dimly aware of this when he says "I am not playing martyr here." Which of course he is, at least when he's not playing the hero: "I know I lead with my chin sometimes and I need to walk away from fights rather than into them sometimes but the other clubs have got to start putting their hands up. Now they are all lobbying around the back of the room and the rest of it, no one will say anything, so I have to go up the front sometimes."

He spends his life using his privileged position in the media to engineer these controversies, then when those who have been targeted fight back, he bleats about the ill-feeling in the game: "....you know what we have got to do? We have got to get back to having some fun. It's like going to the tax office at the moment." (Perhaps a revealing metaphor.)

The projection here is quite astonishing. He is offended by the really quite measured attacks on him by people he has attacked as cheats and incompetents. His lack of self-awareness is breathtaking. It is obvious that his multiple conflicts of interest should now disqualify him from any official position in the game. The Murdoch people won't sack him, because they don't understand what conflict of interest is. The AFL must act.

The real value of Pridham's line is it reduces Eddie to the fat, bellowing caricature he is - and the more he screeches in response, the more he confirms the stereotype - and the more he devalues any valid points he may have.

Eddie will persist, but our Prez has well and truly won this round.

McGuire doesn't realise (I think) how insulting it is the Swans' players, coaches and the rest of the organisation by undermining their achievements by equating them to special advantages not available to other clubs. Nearly everyone knows this is complete crap.

It's also insulting to the Collingwood players, because with the kind of privileges Collingwood get, they should go through the season undefeated.

He is a narcissistic self-anointed messiah who sees himself as the sole savior of football, labeling everyone who disagrees with him as un-Australian or somehow only representing their self interests, while he, the messiah, stands alone against these hoards who want to bring down football.

I am not a fan of Mick Malthouse, but the way Eddie handled the coaching transition in such a public manner was also deplorable. It's just the way he does things. He diminishes everything he's involved in.

The AFL has to step in and get rid of this guy. Otherwise the rest of the football community has to do something.
