Umpiring must have been interesting in the Geelong Freo game going by the free kick count, very one sided.

Apparently Freo were ferral and undisciplined. They tried to niggle Geelong the way they normally do. It must have been bad for there to be so many frees.

Umpires were very bad - we got a couple but Port were given dream run by the umpires.

I thought Shaw and Birdy had very ordinary games. Last week I thought Bird was one of our weakest players and tonight he didn't do anything to change my mind. Does Shaw have a pair of footy boots with stops in them as he continually fell over and his kicking was shocking. Benny was brilliant and I thought Gaz and Cunningham did well.

Oh and I just about put my foot throughout the TV at the commentary. Absolutely disgusting and so one eyed it wasn't funny. Fancy having 2 SA ex players commentating this game.
        i disagree re Birdy

he was 4th in the Swans re points Fantasy tonight and only behind Kennedy, Parker and McGlynn

he laid down 10 tackles !

a goal assist and 6 clearances (highest in the team tonight) with 24 disposals !

Thos stats speak for them self !

That's what happens when you run a club in to the ground too early. Their kicking is just tired kicking. Needing to over do it on the kick .

            1. The Umpiring - Not grear for either side. We got some really good stuff so did they. Franklin's push in the back not being called was a classic. Then there was a free to Boak that was astounding. The problem with people who think the umpies were favouring the home side is that it never happened.

            2. We had some players down tonight. Kizza still was a step behind even though he was reasonably good. Birdie was pretty ordinary tonight. Mal kicked to nobody that I could see in the third and got a rev up from the coach. Too many forward entries to nobody again. Birdie, Macca, Kizza, Benny all guilty. Same Mal. But then there were the moments to keep close Benny's kick to Franklin was a ripper. Same with harry's goals and his delivery. Young Lloydy's ability to affectively deconstruct the contest and turn the ball to our advantage. His ability to goal under extreme pressure. This is what premiership sides are made of.

We need to look at an alternative for Sammy Reid if he doesn't start to impact the contest and I think Membrey would be very good.

I've always been fairly apathetic towards umpiring, accepting they'll make mistakes so you just take those that go your way and get on with it when they don't.

But I am finding myself more and more frustrated these days - I think because they seem to frequently be randomly picking decisions to pay when they have been letting the same thing go up to that point, and then do so again afterwards.

Paying a throw is a perfect example - Westhoff's goal tonight was the second week in a row that we've been penalised and had a goal kicked against in almost identical circumstances, when the ball has really just spilled out the same way is did in about 20 other contests during the night which were called play-on.

And it seems like there are more blatant stuff-ups than in the past - eg. blowing the whistle too early for a mark and then calling play-on, or like in last week's game where the umpire called a 50m penalty for Malceski being held after disposing of the ball, only to call play-on a few seconds later.

I do have some sympathy for the umps though - their heads must be spinning with all the different directions they are given from week-to-week, and presumably even within games. All on top of it being a shockingly difficult sport to adjudicate to begin with.

                Yep, he's hanging on by a thread....literally!

Excellent win, Port were up for it tonight.

We grafted it out like a good team should...I'm happy with that.

A very good win, Port were really up for it, we went away from home and got the job done.

That tonight I thought was the most baffling bunch of random poor umpiring decisions I've seen for a long time. Neither good or bad in the balance for both teams, both had lucky calls and both had shockers.

We toughed it out and our pressure kept Port at bay. We did laboure up forward, even before the ball got slippery, though we looked good on the burst. Once again a thank you to the Hawks for Kennedy and McGlynn.

That's 7 goals for Harry at Adelaide Oval this year- it's great to see him running into space. Jetta is unrecognisable this year. He took a couple of poor options but his defensive work and ability to take the ball out of the contest and into space are a real weapon.

Loved the square-up kick by Franklin for Tippett's first goal and Tippett's snap out of the contest. I also enjoyed Parker's chasedown of Ebert which commentators Dwayne Russell and Ricciutto barely acknowledged. The commentary was Portcentric but it's routine to talk up the challenger. They were effusive about the Swans, but in a dumb way, Russell claiming repeatedly the Swans are the best team in the comp, which kind of overlooks the fact that we got lost to Hawthorn two weeks ago.

Anyway, good win, crazy umpiring howler on the Buddy push in the back, and we look in the box seat to get a top 2 finish or even steal the minor premiership from Hawthorn, who face Freo, Geelong and Collingwood.

Goodesy is still my No 1 'inspirational' player (Buddy and KT have yet to dethrone him) but I would have to think that for both he and Shawy, this year has got to be their grande finale year, a grand final win or not.

Not sure if the Franklin one is even remotely a free kick. He is allowed to protect the drop zone as long as their is no double movement which there certainly wasn't. That has been the rule for a very long time

I have to agree, more than willing to acknowledge when we've got one we shouldn't have, but that wasn't a free kick and the commentary team betrayed their ignorance.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
