Maybe Mitchell hasn't been doing handball drills with the 'regular' mids. Its amazing how they flick the ball around to each other almost faster than the eye can see sometimes and with far fewer misdirections than earlier in the year. I imagine they would have to practice that a lot to have the confidence in each other to do it and at such close quarters, as well as the quick reflex actions it needs.

I hope people are right about Shaw improving over the next game or two. ROK would have run off him with ease yesterday. Next week will be important. If we line up v Freo or Port the week after he will need to have some form.

      I liked Towers' game.
Saw a lot in him and think he will quickly earn a regular spot.
Reckon he's gonna have that X factor that sets him apart...

I cannot see any way that the club would let a player of this ability disappear up the sewer pipe that is the Carlton player list.
I was surprised to see how many disposals he'd had by half time.
Hardly noticed the bloke and he's already had roughly a dozen touches.
        All those quick little gives.

I'm amazed by the continual high performance of Dane Rampe. He totally shut Crameri out of the game. He destroyed Gunston the last time we played the Hawks. He has also shut down Jack Darling.

I'm starting to wonder if Rampe is about to challenge Josh Gibson for the title of the "best medium defender" in the game.

Mitchell's contested ball work and handballing skills are something special. A good game against Richmond may well keep Bird out of the side. Bird is versatile, but Mitchell gives you something different; he really is elite in this aspect of the game.

Shaw usually impacts the game with his run and carry, but he didn't do that yesterday. Maybe he was easing his way back into the side without putting too much stress on the ankle. We also didn't require running the ball out of defence as the Bulldogs didn't offer much resistance to just kicking it out.

I really hope Malceski stays on. He just keeps getting better, and at 30 yo is at the top of his game and IMO the best HBF in the league (Birchall included). But if we lose him, Biggs looks ready to step in.

I think both Cunningham and Lloyd may be in the best 21 with the kind of consistent performances they have put together.

I hope we play Reid in defence against Richmond. I think he can make a bigger contribution down back than as the 4th tall forward.

As of now I have Bird, Shaw, Biggs, Towers and Laidler fighting over the sub spot.

              Me too.

Lingy, like Tom Harley, is an unabashed fan of our club and how we play....

That was as close as you can come to a regulation victory. The game was over within 5 minutes, and the dogs never looked like they thought they could win, as opposed to last year when we won but got based along the way.

The blokes sitting behind were bagging out Biggs saying he was done, then noticed after 1/2 time how quiet Griffin was, then went back to bagging Biggs.

Hard game to judge anyone on, as it was just a matter of getting to the final siren for both sides. A few cheeky goals though, Franklins first and jettas from the pocket. Dont remember a forward of ours getting as good a run with the umps as Tippett had though.

Yeh completely agree...I'm not sure if the people saying Tommy was average were at the ground and couldn't notice his in-and-under work from a distance or something but he did some genius things, if this was any other player performing like that after not having played senior footy for nearly 5 months and being injured most the year we would all be raving about them. Geez people judge this kid harshly!

Boy, just had a look at the BF Bulldogs thread on the game. What a pack of whingers. The hatred is palpable. Our supporters were described as cocky and with no respect for the opposition and the umpires are part of the Sydney conspiracy. Goodes of course is the most protected player in the comp etc etc etc.

Completely agree. I watched the replay again last night and thats when you really notice his work under the packs. His hands and ability to distribute quickly and effectively are almost second to none. Yes he needs to improve his goal kicking but he still has the ability to shoot from outside 50 which is quite an achievement on its own.

Yeh the bulldogs bigfooty match thread is an utter disgrace...that post on the first page with the hatred directed at Goodes is nothing short of embarrassing...can't believe the mods didn't delete it.

Even though that long shot on goal missed i was pretty impressed with how far it travelled...didn't realise he had that sort of penetration!

I thought Mitchell had a great game, especially considering how long it has been since he played first team footy. I was reflecting during the game on how good a job the club has done in getting us playing as well as we are while also bringing Lloyd & Cunningham (in particular) through so seamlessly, but also when players like Biggs and Mitchell come in, they slot straight into the system. It reflects very well on the coaching staff and the structure we are playing right through the squad. It bodes well for any Academy graduates we bring through too.

I don't go on their page but it seems rather hypocritical seeing that his brother plays for the club.

This is the post that's been referred to above, for anyone interested.

I really don't give a ???? if it's bad sportsmanship, but Adam Goodes is the biggest whinging ???? (starts with c) In AFL atm, and if any/all of Goodes/Franklin/Tippett/Richards have a career-ending knee injury prior to the grand final, I will laugh.... A lot.
And if any Swans supporter replies to this post, go **** yourself.
                              As for the game... Pffft.
