It can only be assumed that the Miranda Devines, Rita Panahis, Andrew Bolt's, Neil Mitchells and Alan Jones' of this world are instructed to have certain points of views on issues by their bosses in order to fuel the debate and in turn gain more attention.

These people are far too intelligent to possibly believe the utter rubbish that they are writing and broadcasting.

I'd like to ask Alan Jones why it took so long to come out of the closet. Not being a sook by any chance?

And no, I'm not having a shot at anyone else in the LGBT community: I have a gay son.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

When did he actually come out? I have never seen or heard any reporting of his sexuality. He has certainly not stood up for any minority position, except for a brief stance on Q&A for asylum seekers. The great progress in community attitudes toward LGBTI people had given me hope that progress could be made in attitudes toward race. But, in reality, LGBTI people generally have the same start opportunities in life as everyone else. Not so for indigenous people. Adam Goodes has a tertiary qualification because of the Swans programmes. Alan Jones was always going to go to Uni.,always have good life opportunities, and clearly, always take them for granted.
Robbo was right. The "knuckleheads" don't care about anything more than themselves. They don't care about a bigger picture of what Australia is and could be. They boo because it's all about themselves. Adam is so much more unselfish and committed that they cannot understand him. What are Jones (un) Devine, Mitchell doing to address indigenous disadvantage in Australia?

I haven't posted in here because the whole issue makes me sick. I don't see how it will be resolved. I have emailed my support to Adam and posted supporting tweets and on FB - Mike Pyke's tweet "Paying money doesn't give one the right to vilify another. This is bullying rooted with racism.Sick of the excuses and devil's advocate POVs" was particularly relevant.

I think the Cats away game is the chance to really take a stand as we have Tom Harley to negotiate through. I have had the thought that it would be very striking if, after Goodes has the ball for the first time, if there is booing then when the Cats next win the ball the Cats player hands it to Adam. That would be a very strong image.

Our big issue is to ensure that Adam plays again. That seems in doubt. I think we all need to write to him through the club and implore his to play on. Otherwise it would be sad to see the end of the career of the most remarkable Swan ever finish this way, in a shower of despicable racism and bullying.

You can't eject supporters for booing otherwise I'd never see the end of a game. That will create a dangerous precedent.

Showing their faces on the big screen and embarrassing them is the way to go. Encouraging morales and correct behaviour, not trying to force the correct behaviour..

i will not be going this weekend. Stand by Goodes.
You're penalizing the Swans, not the opposition supporters. Goodesy wouldn't want that.

If Goodes doesn't play this weekend, I won't be at the SCG this Saturday.

So the club won't put any pressure on Adam but Swans fans will?

Don't read the comments, its very depressing.

Let's hope so. I am so sickened by what is unfolding that I hope it gets picked up by every major network in the US and elsewhere besides. I hope they put a torch on the reality that we live in a country that has an ugly racist underbelly.

When people talk about how the nazis could do what they did it often boils down to disbelief that apparently innocuous people could act in unspeakably evil ways.

It is of a different order of magnitude but make no mistake about what we are seeing here. same thing. The answer now as then is for ordinary people to stand up and not tolerate it.

I reckon all the swans should learn that war dance, its only a few steps. Our team has elite co-ordination (ahem) and should break through the banner with it at the start of each game until the end of the home and away season. That'll get everyone really going!

I read somewhere that Geelong are thinking of having the Cats players all shake Adam's hand before the game to show the supporters that they stand with him. I for one would love to see that happen.

I'll be at the game next week, but only because I bought my tickets before this latest mess reared it's head. I have lived in Geelong my whole life and while I'm sure there are a lot of lovely people here, the vast majority of football fans here are white bogans. 90% of the time when someone says something racist, they will precede it with "I'm not racist, but..". People boo because their small mind tells them they can and Tom Harley and the Cats officials can say everything they like but it can only make a difference if people are willing to look in the mirror and change. Sadly, most won't.
