I might do that when watching the last quarter.

Third quarter thoughts
Crouch made some moves at half time. Jones moved to the midfield to tag Payne, a strange decision considering the amazing job Robinson was doing on him. Robbo moved to half forward to play on Robbie Copeland instead. Walsh moved forward too as he didn't have a tall opponent to matchup in the back line.
Great quarter by Towers capped off by a sensational solo goal by Towers using his pace to get away from Payne, should be doing that a lot more during games. Also liked Hewett's clearances he's very clean with his hands.Comment

An amusing moment after the game (on the video) when they called Tom Mitchell to podium to receive his BOG medal. The organisers were looking through a box, but couldn't find the medal. So Tom was just hanging around with a look on his face that said 'I don't belong in this league, get me out of here'. They sent him back until later when they finally found the medal.Comment

If you do I'd certainly be interested to hear. I hadn't even twigged- but the 7th goal for the fourth quarter was on the siren so had no additional time on added anyway- so it was 4 extra minutes with 1 less goal in the fourth compared to the third.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

There was another bizarre call closing out the 3rd qtr. when after taking a mark Nanka had a kick for goal after the siren. The umpire walked up Nanka and made him move to his left (better angle), then as Nanka was about to take his run up, came back and made Nanka go back to his right around where he had started from in the first place. Nanka takes his run up with no noticeable deviation from the line, he kicks a behind, but they disallowed it as they said he played on.Comment

The odd thing about the positioning is that the same ump first moved Nanka to the left and then back to the right. Nanka just followed instructions.Comment

I'm afraid it's time to put the tin foil hats away. Here are my amateur efforts at timekeeping:
Stop watch - Game clock
12:30 - 20:00
15:00 - 25:09
16:00 - 26:31
17:00 - 27:37
17:18 - Zak Jones goal
18:00 - 29:52
19:00 - 31:11
19:33 - Tom Mitchell behind
20:00 - 32:42
20:15 - Paid the throw
20:34 - Smith kicks the goal
Couldn't hear when the siren went but assume it was sometime between the ball leaving his boot and the person in the background yelling "THE SIREN'S GONE!!!"
I didn't think we tried to lock it down hard enough during the last minute or so, but looked like the players were dead on their feet. A few mistakes too, like Heeney not running the ball over the line at about the 30 minute mark and getting pinged for HTB. And great courageous play from Doug Hadden going back with the flight about 30 seconds after Heeney's free against.
ROK's work in the lead up to Jones' goal was fantastic, defensively at first with the tackling and then feeding it out with brute strength to the free Jones.Comment

I didn't take note of how they called the set shot deviations in this game, but AFL umps allow far greater deviations than Nanka's. It looked to be a natural run up, which I believe is how they view it in the AFL.

Aspley got knocked out by Williamstown in the Foxtel Cup this year, but scored more points than anyone else managed against the eventual champions. They look pretty useful, good game by both teams. Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.Comment

After watching the game I didn't think the umpiring was that bad except for maybe the last call. It needs to be said that the umps are under pressure in a grand-final as well.
It was an outstanding game, watched the VFL yesterday as well and I'd say as far as skill level and intensity goes that both games were on par.
Thought Membrey looked really smooth up forward, he moves so well. Hewett had some flashes of brilliance and Mitchell is just a gun...his foot-skills looked better than normal as well.
Wasn't overly impressed with Biggs but he did some nice things, Walsh looked good...I'd forgotten how penetrating his kicks are.
Heeney did some good things too but i rekon Mills might just about trump him in the long run. Not sold on Davis or Hiscox yet.
Thought Marsh was going okay until he got injured but I'd say Lockyer has played his last game at the club.
Naismith didn't have as much influence as his stats suggest but thought Nankervis was impressive, particularly in the forward line. He's a prodigious kick for a big bloke.
Towers was great...the taste of senior footy looks like it's done his confidence wonders, interesting that they played him back too...possible replacement for Mal? B.Jack flashed in and out of the game.
ROK was ROK, Robinson did a brilliant job tagging Payne and then was good when they released him...has more tricks than i realised too...did some classy things!
Jones was really hard at it and super clean below his knees...wouldn't surprise me to see him play 15+ senior games next season.
X.Richards dominated their full-forward...didn't win heaps of the footy himself but looked composed with ball in hand. His closing speed seems to be reasonably elite.
I should qualify all of these observations by saying that I watched the replay on my iPhone so they may not be 100% accurate.

Also did anyone notice that Michael Hutchison (I think that's his name?) from Aspley is off The Recruit? Thought he played pretty well, too.Twitter @cmdil

Interesting. BOG is called the Andrew Ireland medal.
Something to do with his Lions background helping form NEAFL? Or not.
No masking Mitchell's disappointmentThe man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment
