Without being in the inner sanctum and not being from a medical background, I find it hard to comprehend that this infection has occurred. By this I mean is it the same type of infection that he previously had? Going upon previous operations I thought that he became infected a fair time after the operations. Didn't the club treat him so that he was totally free of what was causing the infections before this last operation? Don't get me wrong I am not looking for a scapegoat as I have the utmost respect for the club and their medical teams. Something doesn't quite gel. Surely the club would be scouting world wide for reasons and solutions. Anyway I feel shattered for Alex, to be dealt this blow to one so young in his life and football career. Optimistically I am hoping that there is a cure for him from somewhere in this world, but realistically it seems that his football career is over. What a waste of talent, the football gods can be cruel and heartless.

That's the price of play from him that always pops into my mind for Reid. Sad to see AJ in there creating the play too. So much potential.

Alex will be disappointed, but he really needs to move on quickly and start planning his life after football. He has guaranteed money and free medical and physiotherapy care until October 2016.

He needs to get that knee ready enough for life after football using the medical facilities while they are free and available.

I hope he had been careful with his finances over the last couple of years and has some buffer money as he transitions to a new career.

The Swans have amazing contacts in the business world and Alex needs to leverage these contacts to get the great introductions. He wound be able to get far stronger introductions than 90% of university grads and these introductions need to be used to his advantage.
Actually I think AJ would be the kind of guy who would prefer to succeed through his own efforts rather than relying on the patronage of the well-connected. I hope he doesn't read your comment - I imagine he would find it quite offensive. I know I do.

I don't believe AJ would be offended at all. I believe it to be quite normal to use the people around you and your connections to assist with career aspirations. No point doing it by yourself, if you can use an associate to get a leg in the door.

Had a look at the 2012 GF yesterday and you know that AJ just never got beaten on a one on one contest. So he is a big loss. Is it definitely hang up the boots time for him?? No further updates??

                  Poor love.
My heart just breaks for him.
At least he got a premmie.
Not many players who have only played 50 games can say that.
What a big loss for us.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Damn I hope Alex can at least have a normal unrestricted life. He was instrumental in the GF which is amazing considering his age and experience at the time.
