I thought we always said "swans" out of respect for its South Melbourne roots? I think they even got the cup re-engraved as it originally said Sydney and they were adamant it must be "Sydney Swans"

Well it has been an rather ridiculous 10 days or so for me logistically and the upshot of it all was that I was sent to Brisbane on Wednesday. Thanks to a sympathetic manager I am about to board a flight from here straight to Melbourne. Very excited! Go Swans!!!!
Today's a draft of your epitaph

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Agreed. You'd have to think with a bit of game time up his sleeve that Birdy's experience will earn him a start.

Lloyd coming on late and running himself into the ground would be perfect (with or without a gas mask).

                        This it it !

You're already excited, but the adrenalin pumps even faster as you scan your ticket . But then you worry there is a problem ...why can't you get in ?? Did you try to scan not your ticket ....but your receipt ?? No problem - the patient , smiling security guard says - probably for the hundredth time - "Other way up !!"
You fumble , you re-adjust , you scan , you see the green GO arrow at the turnstile and you are IN THE MCG !!

You move swiftly to your seat. On the way you see smiling faces and have a couple of jovial , polite exchanges with oppositon fans ....but you don't really hear what they say. You probably don't even know what you say.
Why? Because you are focussed on one thing : GOING INTO BATTLE !

Cheer your heart out ! Do ALL you can to be our 23rd man!
Do not even THINK for even a solitary moment that you can leave the game able to speak.
You CANNOT !! Your voice stays in the arena. That's The Golden Rule : Don't any of you forget it !

                        We'll be down,we'll be up,we will see drama,controversy and pathos,all crammed into a single,all-too-ephemeral afternoon.
This stupid , STUPID game of ours rip our guts out , spits on them and tramples them into the dirt.
But we will come back for more . We always do. It's like a drug. Because we know that 'drug' can give us an indescribable sense of euphoria.
Will we get that sense today ?
                        YES !!

Enjoy the roller-coaster white-knuckle ride which is a Sydney Swans Grand Final !!!!!!!

Just landed in melbourne, what a glorious morning it is, all set up for a great grand final!.
I Got a free upgrade to a biz class seat on my flight down and the virgin air steward was a big swannies fan - he told the few hawks fans as they got on the plane that he hoped they were ready to get plucked this afternoon - a great start to the day and long may it continue

The adrenalin is just starting to kick in amd the buzz starting to build - carn you mighty swannies - DONT GO QUIETLY!

So jealous of those of you who can be there in person. However, I am literally half a world away in a different Sydney, one much smaller and less famous than the beautiful city the Swans represent. However, this Canadian who has fallen in love with your game will be watching on TV, Swans shirt on, probably shouting at the TV from time to time. The game starts at 1:30 am here but I don't anticipate staying awake will be a problem - after the last Grand Final win I couldn't sleep after the game despite the sun rising and no sleep having been had. My 82 year old father decked out in the Swans shirt I got him for Christmas also will be here, cheering the Swans. He too has become a big fan of a game he didn't know existed for decades of his life!

For those at the MCG, make a little extra noise for us as I don't think they will hear us from here- but you never know!!

                            BRING IT ALL HOME SWANNIES!!!
