No, Seaby and Mumford were recruited at same time for the 2010 season after Jolly left. I recall Pyke admitting to being disappointed as it left him third in the ruck seniority and still in the Reserves. Seaby was regarded as the number 1 but broke his ankle early in 2010 and was out for the rest of the season. As you say that opened the way for Mumford to excel (and Pyke to prove himself as number 2).

I liked the look of the side when Towers was rucking, although I am not sure what he was doing could be called rucking. I think there are lots of strategies than can be employed to negate a dominant ruckman at the centre bounces, but it is important to compete close to goal at both ends. I know it won't happen, but I think it is quite possible to play the game with Tippett and Reid competing in ruck contests at either ends and mixing it up at the centre bounces, ostensibly playing the ball off the opposition ruckman.
In the same way that tall marking forwards are having less influence than in the past, so too with the lumbering ruckman. The game is evolving in the direction of speed and agility over height. Buddy Franklin would make the ideal ruckman with his height, strength and agility, but then there is only one Buddy. And also why Goodes was so damaging when he was a ruckman. On our list, I think Allir has the possibility of being one of these type of ruckmen.Comment

Imagine the centre bounce carnage with either Reid/Towers v. Sandi...maybe they could put Benny or Parks on their shoulders to help?Twitter @cmdil

Well this seems to be a categorical statement that Tom Mitchell 'ain't going anywhere'.
"Following an excellent 2013, when he made his debut and averaged almost 20 possessions over 14 games, Mitchell's absence from the senior side this year had even led to speculation over his future.
The reality is the product of former Swans' great Barry Mitchell is contracted until the end of 2016 and is more than happy in Sydney.
Injury troubles and an inability to regularly train are the reasons for his lack of senior football this year and coach John Longmire is pleased Mitchell has had an opportunity late in the season."
(We RWO women might have a problem about the description of Tom's birthing though.)

The RWO credo says we have to be fair and balanced.
?mThe birth of Tom Mitchell according to Dampney.

This is what Ive been waiting for.
Bomber ruckman Ryder headed for a storm - AFL.com.au
Ryder to the Swans as a delisted free agent. Get the deal done Ireland. I'm sure its been six months in the works.
The Swans will need to clear space in the salary cap. The following players have to go:
Mitchell ($400,000)
Malceski
Pyke
With Ryder in the ruck we will be incredible. He can even play forward when Buddy or Kurts knees need a rest
This is the Matt80 maga-deal.

Ryder is working on being a delisted free agend becasue the Dons breached his duty of care.
He can join any club that wants him as a delisted Free Agent. Ths club gives up nothing.
He has also stated that he is looking to play in a non AFL State (NSW, Queensland).
Out of the four non AFL State teams, we always get the deal we want (Buddy, Kurt).
Our ruck division is the weakest out of GWS, Brisbane, Gold Coast. We have a need.
