As Premiers the ban would be made harder with Sydney not allowed to trade *IN* any player and must only used the draft.
While guessing your post is somewhat 'tongue in cheek', that entire scenario, while I agree that it might well be the way it is, or at least the way the AFL would like to structure it, would be totally corrupt. Halving or trimming a 'wrong' will never make it a 'right'. Let the courts decide I say, the Swans must be proactive on this and keep the pressure on, to get it sorted legally before trade week begins, not let the AFL drag it out. Their continued silence on this worries me, like they're planning the next cover up or kick in the guts. The club should not be silenced on this and should go for the AFL's jugular in court. It's the only way for complete justice, and I'd go for compensation for last years portion of the ban as well. Kick the bastards like they kicked us. I can handle the Swans helping the league get richer(TV deal/NSW market), but to get more powerful at our expense and use that power to keep us down, that I can't except.....and the club shouldn't either.

I read the same thing. Quite staggering if this is the case!

Caro just mentioned that the afl will give a decision on Swans trading in the next few days. The panel also looked at a list of unsigned players and their possible destinations. Jets was not on it!

I noticed Jetta was not on the unsigned players list and assume it is the usual ignoring anything Sydney by these shows.

            Suspect this is the case.

If Jetta re-signs then the whole trading restrictions issue is meaningless which is all the more reason why I am convinced he is going.

Article in the paper this morning highlighting more dodgy deals at VFL House. Only had a quick scan of it at the coffee shop but something like -

All 18 clubs asked the AFL to continue to use the same GPS data provider that they've been using since the technology appeared. The VFL however has given the contract to Champion Data which is part owned by a couple of VFL heavies. They are a shonky mob down there.

Someone might be able to either link the article or provide more accurate details.

If its not ANZ or Spotless the conflict of interests continue now with other AFL notables - Arrogance is an understatement - I hope they end up in court !!!

The "whole trading restrictions thing" is not "meaningless", and it doesn't hinge on whether Lewis Jetta goes or stays.

We're are being punished for being successful and for following the rules.

I'm so happy that you are convinced Jetta is going. Maybe you should tell him.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

It is an incestuous boys club. 49% owned by the AFL. I wonder who owns the other 51%.

The AFL has a 49 per cent stake in Champion Holdings, whose parent company, Champion Data, will hold the new contract. Champion director Chris Hume owns the remaining shares.

Mods I think this is the right thread, please move it if it's not.

I just heard McLachlan's presser about the mass resting of players by North & Freo. The following is not a word for word quote but as close as I can remember.

"I agree it doesn't feel right but let me reiterate they are not breaking any rule. We may have a look at the options to prevent this happening in the future but as I said they haven't broken any rule."

As soon as I heard this I tried to reconcile it with the AFL's handling of the Swans and the trade ban.

"It doesn't feel right and you can't have everything. Banned. From now."

Seems they can make an arbitrary decision when they want to.

Exactly! I wish someone would bring this up to Polo Gil.

But the thing is that what North are doing is against the rules as outlined in Rule 29.

"Clubs must at all times perform honestly and to the best of their ability in the pursuit only of legitimate competitive objectives.
For the avoidance of doubt, 'legitimate competitive objective' includes the development of the team or players or management of player fatigue or injuries but does not include improving a club's draft position, improving a club's position with respect to a potential player exchange or manipulating a club's position on the ladder for the purpose of improving its draw within the finals series."

North are improving its draw in the finals by ensuring they don't have to travel interstate to play Adelaide!
