It it possible that the Swans have lost their strong relationships on the commission?

The sons of Paul Roos and Chris Langford use to play in the same junior AFL team. They looked on friendly terms one day at Trumper park when I spotted them speaking.

Andrew D has always acknowledged the role that Longmire played in helping him get elected to the players association in the late 90s.

Could it be that the Swans have lost these strong connections to the commission and the club needs to make some new friends on the commission?

Does anyone know, or able to extrapolate, Gillon's email address?

It's very debatable over whether Kelty is a hero of the labour movement.

Doubt the same will be said of the signing of Buddy though. He's all hero.

I could easily be 100% wrong but one possibility is that the Swans and the Commission or whoever, spent months working out an acceptable way to phase out the existing COLA arrangements and finally came to an agreement on it. That is where the Swans knowledge of and agreement to comes in. Then out of the blue came the ban on trading that the Swans didn't know anything about until being informed the Grand Final week or whenever it was. Seemingly a measure to prevent the Swans from trying to get Frawley or Patfull.

However, if that was the case, surely someone would come out and actually say just that, that is the way it unfolded!

Andrew Ireland did say exactly that in his Sen interview of 9 October. The relevant part is about 7.20min in on the interview link embedded in attached article.

I think it was fair that Gillion got the job. He was highly regarded by the AFL.

There is a skill to playing business politics and old boys networks. He got in front of other highly rated administrators like Ben Buckley and Adrian Anderson and this takes skill.

In hindsight I think a brash administrator from the NFL would have been a terrific choice. The Melbourne establishment would have been easily handled when you are used to dealing with Billionaire owners of Franchises.

Encouraging words from the big kahuna himself

The Sydney Swans "can't have everyone" and should accept the trade ban slapped on them, says AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan.

McLachlan responded on Monday to speculation the Swans may challenge a recent edict banning the club from trading until the end of the 2016 season unless they abandon their cost of living allowance (COLA).

So basically Gil is trying to "even up" Sydney and GWS to produce some fake, manufactured rivalry to fill stadiums and max out TV ratings. I hate to tell you Gil it isn't going to happen. Soccer is already miles in front.

This just reinforces my belief that this guy is an idiot. "Cant have everyone" !!. I mean, is that a serious justification?
You can see why he failed in business outside the AFL cocoon.

                          This is still going on.
I moved on a few days ago when it became clear that the Swans whimped out and had to take a seat because their knees were getting sore.
Now that the AFL know we are saps who will do what they're told without question, I'll wait for the next major unfair event which may be upsetting enough for the Swans to actually do something

Is this seriously the best he can do? So we can't have "everyone" but its fine for Hawthorn to recruit a stream of high profile free agents and quasi-free agents. Will Brisbane get a trade ban next year so they can't steal another Beams from the Melbourne heartland? What if next year Kennedy, Parker and Hanners all have compelling reasons to go back to Melbourne. Will "they can't have everyone" then become "they can't have anyone".

That article reinforces a couple of things for me:
                              1) that we seriously peed off the AFL in getting Buddy, when he was 'meant' to go to GWS. We are now paying for this.
                              2) the powers that be have little clue about where this sport sits in the pecking order of things in Sydney, and they continue to overestimate GWS' ability to win over the masses in Sydney.

The point is that we CAN have everyone if we don't break any rules getting them or funding them. It's not up to the league to decide on the strength of our list and limit it if they regard it as too strong. (Liz excellently sums up the two faced nature of this response with her comment regarding Hawthorn)
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.
