Legal proceedings are very explosive. You may win the proceedings, but you make enemies of people and they will hate you forever.

A win in legal proceedings may end the trade ban, but the AFL executive and commission will hate the Swans forever. They will feel angry by being embarrassed by the Swans and will not accept the Swans case for fairness even if the court does.

Most of the commissioners are not going anywhere. They will find a way to quietly hurt the Swans if we hurt them.

Is it really worth the repercussions for one off-season? Compared to the AFL, the Swans are the small guy. The small guy rarely triumphs agains the big guy.
Oh, I'm sorry. I seemed to have missed something.
    They don't hate us now??

Tell Mabo that the small guy rarely triumphs. Tell James Hardie too.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

The classic line from the QC is "But isn't what is being done to them explosive?"

Sure is. So when do we hear the outcome ?

Only on this site could our salary cap drama be likened to indigenous native title issues

I know it's unfair, but it will get sorted out.

Mabo lost his case ... the others won. Not sure how this matters in this context. The little guy so rarely wins.

Pridham should have pushed back right from the start. He admits that now. You seem to be the sort of person who loves to live on their knees - but you will never achieve greatness in that position. You'll never win a GF by being gutless.
With all due respect Ajax, I think the Swans were trying to play nice so that we can get a good outcome with the academy, which is much more strategic than a 1 year ban (plus subsequent 1 year restriction) when we werent going to do much trading anyway. Now that the academy seems to have been sorted we have started on the next battle. Of course, we could have gone in guns blazing on this at the start and won the case but lost the academies due to the vindictiveness of the VFL.

That argument is a little like telling someone in an abusive relationship that they should be nice and suck it up otherwise they might get abused again.

Excuse me, but that is so out of line it isnt funny.

It wasn't meant to be funny. It is an analogy.

I think your analogy is a bit brutal, but not off the mark.

The Swans are in an abusive relationship with the AFL. We were given some candy. They said we ate too much and got too fat. So they took away the candy. And because we were so naughty they've been giving us a good spanking as well.

It is true that we have a legal system to deal with cases of abuse, but the reality remains that the abused party can win the case in court, but all too often the abuse continues.

In general, a direct confrontation with a more powerful entity doesn't turn out well.
