What a terrible outcome if that should come to pass.

I think we should go to court and get the trade ban reinstated. Then we tell Jetta, sorry, but we can't do the deal because we can't get another player to cover you, and we won't waste our money on a mediocre ruckman who can't even be the number 1 for Brisbane, and spends half the time on the injury list anyway.

The trade ban is necessary to keep us from harming ourselves.
Only if it means that we keep Jetta.
If it doesn't, then we go to court.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

I really like Jetta. It's not like he racks up a huge number of possessions but his ability to spot loose guys 40M to 50m away and hit them with a bullet is unsurpassed in our team. He does create goals, even if he's not kicking them himself. But, if he really wants to head back to WA, we should let him. There is a reason we're in at least the top 4 year after year and it's depth. The only real losses we've had in the past few years was Mumford & Mal leaving if you ask me. If Lewis goes it won't hurt as much as those two.

I think you'll find there's been so much concern about our depth on this forum. But I agree with you. We had a lot of players without much experience at the start of the season, but they were good developing players that could step up and fill those last few spots on team if given enough playing time.

Jetta's been great this year, and I really hope he stays. But again, I agree with you that it will not be as big a loss as most of us believe. I think Harry Cunningham can step up another notch and take his spot on the wing. He already does a lot of that now. We will probably reshuffle a few assignments based on how the preseason goes for players like Rose, Hiscox, Towers and BJ. We also will be looking to get some sizable game time into Hewett and Mills as well.

Teams just change to adjust to player movements and injuries. There are several good examples this year. WCE are without their 3 top KPDs from last year. Schofield was struggling to make the side. They were said to lack midfield depth. They've revamped their playing style, other players have come in and taken on new roles and things are looking very good for them. The Bulldogs lost their best contested ball winner in Libba and they have been playing without a recognized ruckman for most of the season. They too have modified their game style to suit their players' strengths. And perhaps only Brisbane have lost more key players than Adelaide over the last few years: Gunston, Bock, Tippett and Vince to name a few, and also had draft penalties to boot. It was looking very bleak. Now they're back in the finals again, playing with a number of unwanted players from other clubs and a few rookies that have stepped up.

Although the trade ban is scandalous and should never have been imposed, I'm not at all concerned about it. I don't see any holes in our side that need filling with overpriced recruits. If we recruit a player like Leuenberger for the 500k figure that's been going around, it means that something will have to fail in the system. If Leuenberger holds down our 1st ruck position, then the door is effectively shut for the next 5 years for Naismith and Nankervis. If Leuenberger doesn't make it, either due to injury or simply that someone like Naismith, who just got a new 3 year contract, turns out to be better, then it will be a waste of money and we are likely to lose some other player because of it. With the salary cap, all these high priced signings have repercussions down the road.

It's looking to be a very active trading season this year and there may be a lot of panic trading. But I think we would be well served to stay out of the big action, get Mills and perhaps Dunkley, and develop the list we already have.

Maybe the Swans are talking about Leuenberger as a little bit of misdirection?

It is paper talk about him. I have not seen a qualification saying that he will come to the Swans if the trade ban is lifted. If he is only a $350,000 pick up then it may very well be a value trade.

              Love your thinking.

This year has been a huge roller coaster - injuries, form slumps, bad losses, huge wins, Buddy etc etc.

The only way to finish this season off is to win the Grannie.

That would poke %^%*(*(( in the eyes of all the scribes and experts that wrote us off.

Watching 'Gill the Dill' on 360 tonight. Robbo insisted the Swans trading restrictions will be lifted shortly, he was emphatic. Gill said nothing.

So I reckon we can bet on a watering down of the current restrictions....Either a raising of the maximum trade amount allowed, or a like for like trading.

I though Gill the dill was very non- committal and blundered his way through it and I was not impressed with him saying it was not a trade ban, well it was a trade ban last year. Sucks that swans have gad to beg for the rights they should have as they did not break rules.

And how coy was he about knowing or not knowing if James Hird was being paid during his year off .
He hesitates , then goes , Er, no .
He's pretty engaging though , of course there are some questions he simply can't answer . It's a hellava gig .

Even if the lift or soften the ban it probably will be too late for us to snare anyone of any worth as they all will have been snapped up by other clubs.

I am in the minority as most calling in to talk back radio love Gill the dill and say he was great on 360 last night maybe the trade ban and restrictions are colouring my observations.
