2015 academy discussion thread (with some FS thrown in for good measure)
Emma always seems a lone voice of reason. Though she follows the kids and their system. Not a vested interest as much as some in the fortunes of the footy clubs
She mentioned the figure 20% discount when the original proposal floated the 25% figure. I hope she hasn't got inside info as I was hoping that common sense might prevail and a higher discount might apply.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.
The thing in our favour is the Brisbane lions. Eddie went after them and removed alll concessions, now this once great club can't keep a squad together and is bleeding AFL money.
Even Caro made a point that brisbane is the only northern club without cap assistance.
Hopefully this makes the AFL mindful of Victorian interference, and it's self serving natute.
Jake is Rob's son, he played with Callum Mills at Willoughby Mosman Swans.
Played mostly U/19' s last year with the odd senior game with North Shore Bombers.
He is a good player but not as good as Mills IMO.
re Jake the obvious question is where you feel Callum Mills is superior and how far Jake is behind Callum in these areas
I watched some of the guys who have rookied with GWS and I was amazed they made the GWS squad as a rookie they were that poor..............and now they are in the GWS ressies team and they touched up our Swans Ressies
Lastly do you think Jake has a lot of upside or someone like Hebron if they go in as rookies in a swans squad?
Callum did play for Nth Shore, i think he played a couple of Senior games, but that was driven more by availability. With Academy and Rams commitments there weren't a lot of free weekends left.
With regard to comparing Jake and Callum I am not qualified to judge the technical aspects of their games. The comparison I used to make the comment is that when watching Callum play he stands out from the other players with his class and time in decision making.
Jake is a good hard worker but doesn't stand out like Callum. Maybe it is a bit unfair to compare them like that.
Another Willoughby/Mosman - North Shore lad to watch out for is Nick Foster.
Another academy player, played seniors for Nth Shore at 18yo last year year and has played a couple of Swans reserve games as well. A real terrier.
Congratulations to the QBE Sydney Swans Academy squad members who earned state selection in the under-16 NSW/ACT Rams squad:
Joshua Barty, Joel Bottin-Noonan, Abe Davis, Michael Dickson, Harry Dobson, Jordan Foote, Nicholas Foster, Harrison Green, Isaac Heeney, Tyler Roos, Vahid Roser, Luke Trowell, Bradley Watson, Oliver Wetzlar

I see on the AFL website that the Riverina is under review as a GWS recruiting zone. Opinion is that such a strong and traditional source of AFL players should not be in an academy zone, those zones should be non traditional areas which all of our are of course.
Reckon it will be taken from them after this years draft given Hopper is a top 5 prospect, and returned to the general draft pool.
Not sure what happens to the pre draft kids already in the GWS system. If they allow these kids to stay GWS, that gives GWS another 5-6 years of plunder in this rich area on top of their already bloated senior list.

I think they could just make a rule that if you play for the Murray Bushrangers you are ineligible for the bidding process. That way more marginal prospects still get a go.
Eddie had a melt down about the Academy again this morning.
About equalisation again.........
Whilst we remain above Collingwood. I see that as equal and fair!!
Yes, please tell.
Out of interest, for those that have seen both Heeney and Mills play (and I've not yet seen the latter), does the theory that Mills is even better stack up - and in what ways?
And while I am at it, has anyone seen Dunkley Jr play and able to provide a take on him?
