GWS are fighting back against: No Cookies | Fox Sports News, Live Sport, Sports | Fox Sports
At least the last 2 paragraphs of the article highlight the idiocy of his campaign.
I found the caption under the picture of McVeigh amusing, if not confusing, as I though the academy didn't start until 2010:
Well, coming from News Corp., what do you expect. Shortly to be followed by a chorus of Melbourne footy fans saying "First they got McVeigh, and now Heeney, enough is enough with those academy steals."

Boy, would that be nice. He won't do it though.Comment

Well written and well targetted piece of journalism.
Eddie is a lunatic and his continual illogical rantings are making him a laughing stock amongst intelligent AFL people.
How he can bang on about equalisation but then foam at the mouth about the AFLPA suggestion of better finance distribution shows how one eyed Collingwood he really is. For all his airplay time, one really hopes the AFL and the Commission start to ignore him and his Hawthorn sidekick.
The article doesn't say McVeigh was Academy, it says Heeney was the first NSW player taken in the first round SINCE McVeighComment

I had a listen to Eddie's equalisation rant on Triple M: http://www.triplem.com.au/melbourne/...-7th-may-2015/
It's really worth a listen. He has his usual crack at Isaac Heeney and the academy. He has truly made an enemy of the AFLPA, which has got to be a good thing.
Eddie's talent is that he has the ability to sound like he knows what he's talking about and unless you are reasonably informed on the issues you can be easily fooled. But any analysis of the details shows that is actually completely ignorant of the issues involved and comes to conclusions which are absolutely dead wrong.
The article states correctly that the AFLPA are armed with the ability to challenge the salary cap in the Supreme Court if they can't come to agreement with the AFL later this year.
And it is clear who will win that battle. In fact it is not even a battle as precedents have been made on numerous occasions. The AFL has to lose.
Eddie also goes on to rant about how the AFL is competing with Soccer and other sports for young talent, yet incredibly would cut the academies, the one vehicle to challenge for the attention of young athletes in the most important markets. It has been shown in surveys in the U.S., and perhaps elsewhere as well, that the sport one plays most when growing up will the sport most followed as an adult. So it's all about winning hearts and minds of the youth.
Eddie also makes this non-nonsensical statement:?People will not buy memberships, sponsors will not come to clubs and volunteers will not be involved in driving the competition if it?s just going into a pot."

These latest tirades from McGuire suggest he knows what's coming......Actual equalisation.
It's beautiful poetic justice, that the man who has been cherry picking what he wants abolished, in the name of equalisation... Retention money for Brisbane,
COLA for Sydney, and all the Northern Academies, now finds his own club in the equalisation firing line.....At least to some extent.
We'll never have the advantages of.... Minimal travel, bulk of our list being local products, the GF at our home ground...Not in the foreseeable future anyway.
But ensuring all clubs have the same amount of funds to spend, will go a long way to making the competition fair.
Suck it up McGuire.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Equity doesn't equal equality. Assuming the picture upload works, Eddie is after the situation on the left whereas most reasonable people would see the situation on the right as most appropriate.Comment

That was last week I think? And the commission requested more information from Mark Evans before they could come to a consensus.Twitter @cmdil

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Eddie at it again.
Re equalisation:
"That is to have an uncompromised draft and not to have any of these other elements on the side, whether it's a cost-of-living component, or whether it's zones or whether it's academies, or anything else," he said.
Northern AFL clubs making draft unequal, says Eddie McGuire
Apart from Gill the Pill, who actually listens to Eddie? Even the Carlton supporters on that article, while wishing he was their president, could see right through his hipocrisy. He's the equivalent to a toddler having a tanty in the corner, and no one is taking any notice of him.C'mon Chels!Comment

Liking this, by Callum Twomey on the AFL website coupla daze ago. I'm all for other players rising up the draft board and pushing Mills down down down!
"JACOB Weitering took six marks in the opening quarter, three of which were contested.
He jumped, stuck his hands out and wrapped them around the ball so tightly it sounded like it the Sherrin was about to pop each time.
He kicked the ball 60m out of the backline off two steps, and directed play.
That Weitering did all of it while playing for the NAB AFL Academy against Werribee's VFL side, and matched up against North Melbourne forward Majak Daw, made it even more impressive.
Since that 35-minute opening term last month at Simonds Stadium (the quarter stretched on and on), the key defender has been the clear favourite as this year's No.1 draft pick."Comment
