This is not directly related to the academy argument but I read this morning that Eddie had a slanging match with Paul Marsh who is chief executive of the AFLPA about the recent equalisation debate. He brought out his tired argument "I've been a president for 17 years Paul, you've been in there for 10 minutes". Isn't that the same line he used against Pridham last year???

Was so happy to be at the game last night and see the pies get smashed while imagining the look on Eddie's face ????!!

That's his narcissism coming out again.

Bit like the old "don't you know who I am" statement. One of good old Jeff Kennett's favourites after he left politics.

Eddie was shown on TV immediately after the siren and his face was just as you imagined it Mel. Oh I laughed!

He wants to take away perceived benefits to other clubs but when it effects his club he gets angry which is fine, but because of his media connections he abuses his position which is disgraceful.

I'm not sure how to post photos from my phone on RWO but if you have Twitter I tweeted a close-up of Eddie's face last night...it's brilliant!

Also Dunkley is out injured and isn't expected back for about a month...hopefully with him and Mills both missing significant amounts of footy this year they might slip down the draft pecking order a bit.

Every ND position Mills and Dunkley slip makes our task of securing them much easier. I think it will depend on which teams are at the bottom of the table and right now the correct ones for us are down there, Carlton, St.Kilda, Brisbane and GC is the quadrella we need.

Also, an article on AFL website this morning about GWS academy prospects. Jacob Hopper has been rated potential top five for a while now but another player has emerged for GWS early in the season who could be top 15.

Whilst GWS is in a great position to trade out excess players for picks worth useful ND points, the more northern academy players at the top of the draft the better for us.

Still hopeful we can get the Mills - Dunkley combo done without impacting our 2016 ND picks.

I'm confident that we will get them both without dipping into next year's draft pick-pool. By all reports this Weitering kid is absolutely dominating and a lock for number 1 so it would be too big of a risk for say Carlton or Brisbane or St Kilda to bid pick 1 and pass up the chance to get him. Especially when they are all screaming out for key-position players. You'd also like to think that Brisbane wouldn't bid for Mills just for the sake of it given we are effectively on the same side of the academy debate.
If Dunkley slips to late first-round, early second round then we could even escape with giving up only our first 3 picks for both players...I think that would be the dream situation.

We don't know what the impact may be from 'vexatious' bidding. Mills could be bid number 1 regardless of where he is rated just to make us pay the maximum price. That is one of the shortcomings of the proposed system.

With all this talk of Mills and Dunkley, has Dunkley actually come out and said I want to go to the Swans???

No, but he does, a big Swans fan. Players usually don't indicate publicly until after the season ends. Is obviously waiting until our bidding position becomes clearer, if we think we can snare him we'll be giving him the invitation to join us (and Callum!)

Vexatious bidding is a worry but I doubt those teams at the bottom of the ladder would play such games as they all have more important problems around draft time. Can't see Melbourne pulling that stunt two years in a row and hopefully Collingwood will finish out of harms way mid table. Confident that Mills will slip into little damage territory.

NEWS FLASH. Academy and F/S drafting rules to be announced tomorrow. Apparently the sticking point is whether Wagga Wagga will be included or not.

well, if people stuttered less it would have been announced weeks ago.

Wagga specifically? Or the Riverina more generally?

I don't see how different rules for different regions is workable. Right now, the Giants have the Riverina and other areas of southern NSW in their zone and have been investing in the area accordingly. If they decide to carve out a section of the state from the academy scheme going forward, that is one thing. But the Giants should still be entitled to bid under the same system as will apply more broadly for players already in their system - certainly those draftable this year and probably for the next couple of years. I'd have thought redefining zones was a completely separate question to the draft cost.
