Scott's post perfectly reflects the mood on Red and White.

I personally believe that the post displays a lack of ambition for the AFL game.

The first big Super Bowl half time show was Michael Jackson in the early 90s. This was done by the NFL to attract a wider World Wide audience than just the rusted on NFL fans. The half time show has been successful in attracting a bigger World Wide audience. The Super Bowl was yesterday shown on the main 7 Network Channel.

Why can't the AFL Grand Final become an entertainment extravaganza and start drawing a bigger World Wide audience?

I want more people in the World to experience the last five minutes of the 2012 AFL GF. I want Time Square to erupt in the middle of the night when Nick Maleski snaps over shoulder.

World class entertainment will draw people in and then they will love the game in turn. If it works for the Super Bowl, why not for us?

    PS

I get home this afternoon and my wife and four year old boy are watching the Katy Perry show on Foxtel IQ. My wife, later on, starts asking me why Tom Brady is so great. That's the ripple effect of the half time show!

the only good thing about the superbowl is the quality of the advertisements.
Gridiron is a very boring game.
If it weren't for the half-time entertainment, and the quality of the advertisements, no one would watch it.
We don't really care about the entertainment at our grand final. We know that there will be some, and we know that it is going to be @@@@.
The only entertainment we care about at a granny (and I've been to quite a few), is the entertainment of the g.a.m.e.

I can't see advertisers in Australia spending $5mil for a 30 second ad.
That's what the superbowl is all about really... the money.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Here's an alternative point of view, highlighting some examples of so-called "world best practice".

The Super Bowl culture that the AFL should avoid

Come on. You can't disrespect a sporting legend like Tom Brady. He may not be your sporting legend, but he is admired around the World. The way he led the Patriots back from a 10 point deficit in the 4th quarter was incredible. He has three Super Bowl MVP awards. You name me an AFL player who has three Norm Smith Awards? He has also won two NFL MVP awards, which is like winning two Brownlow medals.

He is thought of as the man in America who has it all. He is a sporting legend, an admired leader, has a supermodel wife and even has a son to an ex who happens to be a movie star. He is also a good looking bloke with a cool and likeable demeanour.

What makes his story even more fascinating is that he was a low 5th round draft pick who only had one team interested in him (Patriots). That's like an AFL player taken at pick 70 who goes on to become the greatest AFL player of all time.

Any Swans player who knew anything about sport in the USA would love to meet Tom Brady.

Can't disrespect someone I've never heard of.

EPL gets more TV viewers than the superbowl without all the crap.

As for the millions for advertising.
Maybe they should put it to better use in a charitable organisation than trying to line their own hip pocket.

NFLRUSH PLAY 60 — NFL RUSH

This is a program that encourages kids to involve themselves in physical activity for 60 minutes a day. This is how the NFL gives back to communities.

Agree that the EPL is massive. I would some day like the AFL to be massive World Wide. I would like to see AFL players get paid a World Class wage. If Buddy was a NFL star he would make between $5-10 mill a year. If Jarred Hayne could get a roster spot he would make over a million dollars a year. If he could become a starting running back he could pump that up to $3-5 million a year.

The only way we can pump this AFL salary cap up is to substantially grow the market.
