In fairness (yeah I know, what has fairness got to do with it) what Kennedy said is that the boundary umpire was looking behind the point post (or to his left) and therefore he could see BETWEEN the point post and the goal post and could see what happened. You can sort of see this on the video.
He also said boundary ump was "100% certain" whereas what the boundary ump actually said was he "believed" the ball was touched. Bit of difference in confidence in those two statements in my view.He also said that the additional video footage (not shown) used Hawk-Eye. Now as I understand it, Hawk-Eye is a computer system used officially in numerous sports, most notably in Australia for cricket and tennis, to visually track the trajectory of the ball and display a record of its statistically most likely path. Is that what he meant? That is the upstairs ump used a computer-generated image which suggested the ball was touched?
And if the AFL has gone down that path, then it seems to me they need to use Hotspot for this type of situation to be able to judge if there was any contact between the ball and the outstretched hand/fingers of the opposition player.

Spot on Meg. "I believe" is not the same as "I am sure" or "I am certain". And the goal umpire was in the best position to make the call and his original decision was "I believe it was a goal, I just want to check if it was touched". In an umpires call the umpire in the best position to make the call (goal umpire) decision stands.

I think we're all pretty blessed to support a team that has made finals 17 out of the last 20 years! That figure should end up being 22 out of 25 or thereabouts at a bare minimum too. Amazing record
