NEAFL 2015 Round 4
Sydney University v Sydney Swans Reserves
Saturday 2nd May 2015
5.10pm
Sydney Cricket Ground
Note: Match being streamed live by the NEAFL North East Australian Football League: Live streaming links: Round 4
This match was originally a curtain raiser to the Swans Bulldogs AFL match but has been switched to a curtain closer due to worries about the rain.
The Reserves dished up a few thrashings against Sydney Uni in the first few years of the NEAFL but in recent years the margin has shrunk considerably with last year's meeting between the two sides going the way of the Swans by only 20 points.
There were high hopes for Sydney University going into this NEAFL season, after just missing out on the finals last year. Their squad has been signficantly boosted by some shrewd recruiting that yielded two former AFL players in Tom Young (Collingwood and Western Bulldogs) and Lewis Stevenson (West Coast and Port Adelaide), two of Aspley's winning premiership side in talls Jed Turner and Austin Lucy as well as 2 signings each from the WAFL (Sam Fong and Jordan Law) and the SANFL (Aaron Day and Scott Blesing)
However they've endured a winless start to the season losing to Redland by 7 points and last week succumbed to reigning premiers Aspley in the dying seconds to lose by only 3 points. They will go into this clash with some confidence though, having defeated a rusty Reserves side just a few weeks ago in a pre-season practice match.
The Reserves bounced back from their Round 2 shellacking by the Giants to post a comfortable 11 goal win over the hapless Gold Coast Suns Reserves.

Hiscox, McGlynn and Cunningham will all likely spend time in the midfield to make up for the absence of Mitchell and Goodes who wree responsible for 14 clearances between them against the Suns.

There will be 2 sets of brothers playing against each other, with Swans ruckman Tom Derickx against his younger brother Jacob, and Swans Academy player Andrew Sierakowski against his older brother Will. Besides the brotherly familiarity out there, there are a few other players that the Swans would be familiar with. O'Dwyer is the most famous of the lot, Mitch Thompson was an Academy player a few years ago and in more recent times, Osbourne and Young have played as top ups.
Rawlinson, Sierakowski, Young, Fong and O'Dwyer are their biggest possession winners while up forward Tim Barrett leads their goal kicking with 4 just ahead of Derickx with 3 (and an inaccurate 7 behinds)
