There is a deficiency in the coaching if those players, amongst others, think they have the skills to execute pinpoint passes in wet conditions. Consistently the same culprits - but unless they're constantly ignoring instructions (which would be an issue on its own, but I suspect not the case), they seemingly need more feedback to convince them they are not capable of hitting those targets.

Disappointing to see Shaw running around seeking those little 'it's OK, better luck next time' high fives from anyone within 100m when he gives away turnover goals, but when Laidler's fumble led to a goal, he's the nearest player yet looks the other way.

Good luck to the Bulldogs, but our worst is way off what is needed to be a genuine premiership contender. We can hope we don't have too many injuries as the inconsistency when we're at full strength is concerning enough.

Effort was fine. Just not polished enough in the conditions.

Towers is a liability. Goodes isn't far off him.

The commentary was hard to listen to as a Swans supporter.

One goal loss against a good team.

You can pull out a hundred moments where it was lost, but Tippo into the post at close range when it was up for grabs was a shocker.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.

It's time to face the music and realise that we need to revamp our defence. Our skill level and decision making is just not good enough to carry the Swans to a premiership. Unfortunately, we don't have too many options at the moment. We can't drop Rampe, even though he's hasn't been able to handle the additional responsibility with the loss of Malceski. Shaw hasn't been terrible this year, but he makes too many skill errors that cost us critical goals. Time to move McVeigh to defence. I've had just about enough of Grundy as well, which would mean that either Reid plays full time defence or we bring in Xav Richards, who hasn't set the world on fire either. We just need to find players who can handle the ball under pressure. Our kicking is so poor, sometimes I wonder how we've done as well as we have.

I like the Doggies push thru in numbers when they win a turnover...... alah Port style and both teams have the speed to do that

It is the antidote to our slower stronger but older midfield

There is a chance we lose next two games in a row as well. I'm becoming pessimist about our chance this year. Longmire needs to have a hard look at our back-line and make some hard decisions.

I fear the Port game might be the anomaly so far, as today resembled Essendon & Freo matches. Our good was great ... but great for 1/3 of a game is hard to offset not great for 2/3 of a game. Might work against an average team (Bombers) but a big ask against better sides (Freo, Dogs).

My thoughts exactly. When the pressure is on, we simply can't get the ball out of defence. Not enough competent ball users. What about Zak Jones? Is he injured? Other thoughts:

                          - I didn't think Goodes was that bad - actually made some defensive efforts. He keeps his spot for my money.
                          - Mitchell was great in the conditions, Pyke is also playing very well and I think McVeigh did well also
                          - We need to get the ball to our better ball users (ie. Lloyd) more and keep it out of the hands of people like Grundy & Shaw
                          - I don't think the commentators are particularly anti-Swans, it's more that everyone is jumping on the Bulldogs bandwagon. And I can't blame them, they're on the rise after some dark years, got some great talents and are looking good. I'm hopping on!

We don't have the depth we've had in past years. Cunningham, towers, single digit possession players whilst goodes and Shaw are fading before our eyes. You can't carry this many players and expect to win consistently. towers had four possessions today.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Strange that a young team which hadn't played finals for a while showed more composure than a mostly experienced finals hardened team.

We looked flimsier at the back and were more wasteful kicking for goal.

I would prefer not to see Towers for a while - he's pretty soft and not smart. I'm not sure Goodsey won a contested ball. Laidler isn't a premiership player. We missed Sam Reid.

Great game by Hanners. Well done Mitchell too.

I asked this after the grand final and I ask again: how much do we want it?

Long wet trip from Canberra and back.

                                Ditto.

What's Horae got to work with?

Not that I think our defence is bad, but for half a decade the rest of the footballing world has admired & applauded our miserly defence. Ted, Shawry, Reg & Co. have been praised for punching so effectively above their weight. Horse has stuck with them because they worked well as a unit.
The criticism we've had in the past has been a lack of mid-field polish & perhaps a marque forward. Horse & the recruiting team addressed this ... but in the mean time Father Time is catching up with Ted, Rhyce & Reg, already taken LRT, Craig Bolton & Eski moved on (perhaps at the right time for the Swans given current form & injury). Only last year Ramps was being lauded by RWO & the football world in general as an amazing bargain basement ... today, there are too many cries of him having to go. Reid is being developed as a KPD but consider how long LRT was given before he finally made it his niche? It took time ... he was played week after week even though at times he looked somewhat ungainly & lost. In comparison, Sammy is an infant in that position.
But if you're calling for Horse to drop all these current guys, but who are you going to replace them with? (Not you Swans500, all the others who - in the immediate aftermath of defeat are doomsday profits behaving like Port, Crows or Richmond supporters).

A more immediate fix would probably be to put a roof over the SCG so we don't have to play wet weather footy. A one goal loss could have gone either way (they played better footy for the majority of the match but we could easily have stolen victory from the jaws of defeat). In the dry Buddy could likely have worked more miracles, our finesse disposal would likely have been more effective. But a massive change to our back six will likely result in more heartache.
