    Buddy's interview style

Buddy never seems at ease in front of the microphone to me. Almost like he would rather be anywhere else but where he is.

In his last interview the first question he was asked was how did he feel about the WADA appeal. He obviously had to be careful with what he said so why ask it.
I thought the jokester that put the doughnuts in his locker was very funny. Does anyone know who that was?

He knows his limitations and plays a straight bat to everything.

I'd guess that it was Rampe or Tom D...they seem like the two that would be up for a laugh the most!

          Please.
He's a footballer, not a doctorate of English.
He's also a very, very shy man. Of course he'd rather be doing something else.
He does fine with the media. (They should be talking to the captains instead of talking to Buddy, but that's for another thread.)
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

I get sick of the after game interview always (well it isn't always but it seems like it) going to Buddy, and the rest of the time Kennedy.
Grab Teddy, he has good sense of humour. Get Rohan, he always has plenty of time for fans. What about the big Canadian?

Love Mike, he's now a big Australian, and in much better shape than BHP.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

If I was doing an interview, I'd avoid Myke - he might give you very serious and detailed answers. I can imagine it:
"Great game Mike, 336 hit-outs, 2 goals straight, 93 tackles shame about the free-kick against you at the end of the 3rd quarter spoiling a perfect game."

"Thanks Todge, I'm a bit confused about the free. Certainly rule 34.b mentions the socks-down by-rule, but that is clearly over-ridden by rule 40b in the case of a ruck contest within the 50m arc"
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

Buddy isn't the only one that says um. I noticed Hanners saying it a lot on the Sunday Footy show.

I agree that Buddy seems nervous when he is interviewed. He really doesn't like the spotlight on him.

He obviously gets media training and keeps it very straight on certain topics which is fair enough as he gets more than enough media attention. Any slight hiccup and the media will get excited.

Exactly. He sounds to me like he's being very careful not to give the media a sound bite they can completely take out of context, and add a distorting headline to. Like "Buddy says ban the Bomber players now" or "Buddy thinks Geelong are easy beats".

I really feel for him as he fields the questions. As stated, he has to be so careful in what he says. I think he got through what was quite a long interview without giving one opinion of his own (I might be exaggerating with this) but must have created a record for the number of cliches, a few of them repeated over and over, that he managed to use as answers. He did very well!

As they all say, in every interview (all of 'em): 'definally' (I think that it means an emphatic
                          'yes')

Buddy has a lot of football intelligence, but thinking on his feet in an interview type intelligence he ain't got ( that's grammatically correct isn't it?). I'm guessing Speech and Drama wasn't his favourite subject at school and he wasn't on the debating team.

We've had some beauties here. Started with Plugger who said nothing for 5 years.
Roosy introduced the 'yeah/no' to start every answer.
Then the ubiquitous 'look' replaced that as the first response to every query.
'Absolutely' was a strong favourite for a long time. while the guys digested the question and considered the safest reply that gave the interviewer nothing.
And recently, 'definitely' is getting a good, sustained run. I don't think it means yes..it's just another way to get a breather to think of the neutral answer that will not upset anyone.
In fact, our politicians are getting good lessons from the boys in non answers....or , is it the other way round?
