Don't want to sound pessimistic but:

The situation for Friday could not be better set up for a sucker punch/rope a dope scenario.

Sacked coach, Swans off the biggest game of the year on a 6 day break, Blues players playing for survival, betting odds somewhere around 5 to 1 against Carlton, wet night. Could be the Doggies game all over again.
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!

Hopefully our players are well aware of the good record sides enjoy following the sacking of a coach and react accordingly by not going in over confident..

            Just our luck.

First the weather, and now a team trying to impress a new coach!!

In my experience, usually what happens is if a coach is sacked but he stays on for a last game, the players will really put an effort in for him. So this situation would have me nervous. But if Malthouse is gone immediately and this Fri is a new coach, especially a caretaker, I'd be less worried. I'm assuming he is gone immediately given the bad blood this week between him, LoGiudice and Trigg.

when did this last happen? I can only recall retirements fitting this bill.

I'd give you Round 13, 2002, but Rocket resigned.

The Blues list isn't capable of an upset of this magnitude, even playing full tilt. Our Swans, well aware of the importance of percentage at the business end of the season won't be taking this game, or any game for that matter, lightly. I would relax a bit, I think we'll be fine.

In: Any young footballer who has been in form.

Rohan, I thought was disappointing on Saturday. He over ran the ball a few times, didn't have many stats and regardless of his forward defensive pressure he is lauded for, was about our worst player.

I cannot believe the number of casual approaches to this game being espoused ... hope the players aren't reading this rubbish ... this is a classic mistake that many teams have made to their sorrow ... no matter how dire the situation of the other mob ... ammunition for super human efforts is not to be given out ... na?ve ... na?ve ... na?ve. No mercy is the only rule for Friday night.

I agree ... very ordinary and about time we stopped giving him a soft run for many poor skill errors.

Now a danger game, and showers forecast, that always makes it closer.

Pity there wasn't a ressies game last weekend so no one could press their claim for promotion. Good chance to "rest" Rohan and blood Hewett.
