Even if it's five weeks he'll only miss four games as we'll have the week off before our preliminary final!

This is looming as a real danger game. Not only will the Giants be up for it, perhaps slightly less so now that their finals chances appear gone, but we have a bunch of injuries. On the upside for us, so do they. They'll struggle to find key defensive match ups if Davis is out, especially if Franklin returns.

Parker the only definite out, but you'd have to expect 2-3 more. Rampe's move to midfield after Parker went off could also be pertinent in terms of this week, depending on who else is out.

Larkins expects Davis to be out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury, according to afl.com.au, so one for us there.....

Dan Robinson (collarbone) is listed as 4-5 weeks on the injury list. Given the circumstances there is next to no chance that he will play again this season. I think we should put him on the LTIL and elevate Nic Newman. We should also try to get him a game or 2 before the finals to give ourselves another option if needed. He's been playing very well for us in the reserves.

Benny is also listed as 1 week, so he's not an option to replace Parker. Jones or Newman looking the best options to replace Parker atm.

Bird is now listed as a test, so could present a like for like replacement for Parker if we choose to go down that path at some point in the coming weeks. I would prefer to go for a bit more speed, but Bird is still a valuable player in finals situations.

In another sad note, Naismith is again listed as indefinite after a fine half game of footy a couple of weeks ago. I would say he's also doubtful to be seen again this season.

Poor old Sam seems a bit of a crock doesn't he, I can see next year really being a make or break season where he needs to play 6 - 8 seniors games minimum

I'd love to see another debutant but given it's a pretty tight run in we may not get that luxury - in terms of debutants this year we've seen Heeney, Nanka and Robbo. I would have been hoping for another one or two in an ideal world, I wonder if George is prepared to be patient.

Having said that I do like the Swans ideology of really making the youngsters do an apprenticeship in the Twos and earn their games

Haven't really commented on the structure of the team - but the injuries received will help the team.

Rampe is a big body that is desperately needed in our midfield and one haven't we had since O'Keefe retired - replacing Parker.

There is an issue that Parker and Mitchell do the exact same thing (along with Bird). Now it is Mitchell's role in the near future - though all three of these guys are amazing.

Reid is a backman being made to play forward. He is a BACKMAN. Hopefully with Rampe in the midfield he will find a place in the back 6/7.

Rohan is the best FF in the competition, only he doesn't realise he is the best FF in the competition - or even a FF. Tippett is a ruckman who rests forward. Pyke is a ruckman.

And finally - McGlynn is the most important inclusion in our list. Always moves the ball forward. Is the best in the team at playing front and centre. It has been easy to notice his influence due to his in and out status within the team.

There are a few that need to put their hands up....

Really interesting post. The provisos I would add are: Pyke and McGlynn must remain fit, Rohan should be looked after in a similar way to how Hawthorn look after Cyril and will have the same sort of impact, and Reid can be a genuine swing player but needs to work on his kicking - if he is not accurate enough to kick goals his field kicking won't be a lot of use either.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Said yesterday that he ran a bit on Monday and would try to train tomorrow.

Hopefully he and McGlynn are fit to play as they are huge ins for us.

                      Nice post, mate.

I am expecting Rampe to play in the midfield this week, if Laidler plays. He played much of the last quarter in the midfield last week, and earned praise from Longmire. McVeigh must play behind the ball, creating. Joey's heating up and Mitchell has just had a breakout game and now has more responsibility. I'm feeling optimistic.

One of Buddy or McGlynn in would be a start. I have a feeling it'll be the latter, only.

Totally concur with the above comment re Gary Rohan being a FF, I really think that he and Buddy can be a powerful force in tandem. I was watching him from the Bradman Stand leading and his aerial ability is top of league. PLus he has a great set of hands and is a great kick.

2016 could be his breakout year but he is also the type of player that can change a finals series and we'll need something like that for us to have any realistic chance

I am interested in whether Nic Newman can get a game if the established players can't get fit. It seems that there are 3 possible avenues for him to be upgraded. Parker to the LTI, Robinson to the LTI or Naismith to the LTI. However, 6 weeks is, as I understand it, the minimum period for the LTI list and Parker is listed as 4 to 5 and Robinson may be similar. The question is, if Naismith is indefinite and finished for the season, can he be replaced by Newman as the nominated Rookie?

Common sense would say yes, but, hey, this is the VFL.

                          Can anyone enlighten me?
We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!
