Easy to see why this would get legs and sprout conspiracy theories - there really is no precedent for this in any sport that I'm aware of.

Maybe Jonathan Trott going home mid ashes, but it is really a strange occurrence that a superstar of any sport would miss the key portion of the season due to unclassified mental health issues.

Dont recall any Olympic athlete missing their event because of mental health?

So true or not, I can empathise with MP's point that it FEELS like there is more to this.

Also, why would John Longmire go on record as saying that he expects Buddy to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of pre-season if any of the above 'theories' were true?

For his size and stature, he's a very shy man.
Maybe that's why he's never been in a leadership group.
Maybe he's just happy doing what he's doing without the extras.
Agree 100%...he doesn't need to be 'in' the leadership group to be one of our main onfield leaders...a quick look at the 2014 grand-final *shudders* will prove how well he leads with his actions.

If Longmire says the Buddy is doing OK and is expected back for pre season then why don't people just accept it. Why would Longmire say that if it wasn't true. People go on and on about respecting Buddy's privacy, but then they keep talking about him. Sure, the press feeds on
controversy, real or imagined, but it doesn't mean you have to buy into it. I think Longmire's comments are good news. Hopefully Buddy (and all our other injured guys) can get super fit again over the preseason and we can have a better year in 2016 than we did this year.

Mods - close this thread down. It's a private issue on which the club has been transparent. Personal Medical conditions are none of our business.

A great common sense post! Please let that be the end to all this POINTLESS speculation about our champion. I'm sure I speak for everyone here in that we all hope, whatever his issues are, that he recovers and has 1. a good happy life and 2. returns to play his best footy ever! Until we get more info, this constant speculation, albeit fitting in with current societies perceived entitlement to 'pry into other peoples business', is not only rude and disrespectful, it is getting us nowhere......have faith in our club and move on until we hear more.

Latest statement from the Swans is based on Longmire's interview on ABC radio: Longmire confident of Franklin return - sydneyswans.com.au

Let's all accept this at face value.

Not personally, but a family member of mine has spend some time with Buddy and Jacinta.

From what I've heard, Buddy is very outgoing in the company of friends.

Many people are outgoing in the company of friends.
Not necessarily in the rest of life though.

Aren't we all? I am, but consider myself a shy person and therefore, not a natural born leader......nor am I or any of us immune to mental health issues, and the reasonable expectation of respect to our privacy to deal with it.

                          No.

The Swans and the AFL organisation want us engaged in the lives of AFL stars. Without our engagement the AFL and the Swans would not be as lucrative.

Complaining about fans taking an interest in Buddies life is like a Movie Star complaining about Bikini photos despite accepting 10 million a Movie.

Interest in Buddy comes with the territory of being the clubs highest paid player.

I agree. What's more reliable? Longmire's clear on-the-record statement or an internet rumour of indistinguishable provenance?

I think suggestions to close the thread until there is anything more to discuss have merit. Those who wish to continue to peddle in rumour and speculation will find a couple of threads on BF that are still alive and kicking. If there is any change that renders further discussion valid, the thread can be re-opened.

(And please don't start new threads to continue the discussion. They will just be deleted unless they address relevant new information AND don't constitute inappropriate speculation on a matter that should be private.)\
