A Swans player (Who will remain nameless) told some former Sydney team mates that is was a third strike and the retirement will be to save the game the embarrassment of their biggest star being done for addiction. Also a second high profile Swan picked up a second strike at the same time (he will also remain nameless as they only get named after 3). The source is reliable but I also believe that the Swans have an out in Buddy's contract if he picks up a third strike.... Not trolling just information I heard from a pretty reliable source. Also heard as above where he is currently rehabilitating which fits. 3rd strike is usually a 12 week suspension I think, could be two years, wonder if he will make a come back in a few years with another club?
Sad really - even though he left Hawthorn for you guys he is still an amazing player to watch regardless of the Jumper he wears.Carn the Southern Power.....Comment

Buddy (merged thread)
As I said a couple of days ago, the AFL used Buddy (by pre-recorded video) to introduce the count for the Indigenous Round at the Brownlow countdown on Monday night. I cannot believe the AFL would have done that if Buddy was hiding away on a third strike.
All those used to make introductions were high profile, highly regarded players. I viewed the use of Buddy as a sign the AFL regarded him as a player who fitted that description - and rightly so.Comment

As for the rumors, who really knows.
We will soon enough I guess.
The talk is of a Tuesday press conference to announce retirement, but that's just talk.
As far as I'm concerned, I'm taking it as it has been presented and that is mental illness.
Some of his closer friends have come out and used the term depression, so I guess most lean towards that.
I'm still hoping the off season allows enough time to move through it and be ready for round 1.
Hopefully they have a gym at the centre he's atThe difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

Probably didn't articulate it best i could have. I think him not playing the rest of the season is the right call and am glad the swans made it. My example of mitch morton was that he suffered from high anxiety before after games but still able to perform and speaking to psychologists and with medication he was able to manage it. I think people forget Richard Colless suffered depression as well in 2010 and almost quit, two years later we won the Cup. My point was with help he can still play next year .Comment

I believe in that same issue they broke a story about a vaccine giving someone autism or somethingComment

If it's illicit drugs it is not a third strike. The Swans have no capacity to do independent drug testing (Port with permission from their players wanted to and were denied) and therefore no capacity to hide it from the AFL. And a third strike would not be kept secret by the AFL. Third strikes are public.Comment

yeah Mike Fitzgerald was a bit harsh, but that ex-Carlton Rhodes Scholar Mike Fitzpatrick should be smart enough to know better after his vitriolic verbal tirade!Last edited by goswannies; 2 October 2015, 02:00 PM.Comment
