Apparently we're going to re-rookie Marsh though.

Seems harsh on Perris given his injuries, also harsh on McLaren given he was only at the club for 1 year.

Very harsh on Perris given he can't get a run with injuries - but sometimes that's the way it falls. Might have been different if he was not a midfielder, given that is where we have our greatest strength in depth.

As for McLaren, I saw nothing in the few ressies games that I saw to suggest he had the potential to be an AFL player.

As for Marsh, I wonder if this decision is as much about giving us some flexibility in the draft, if for instance Dunkley doesn't come our way.

Sad news about Perris. If he can get his body right I still think he will have a good career in the AFL. Unfortunately seems susceptible to ACL injuries.

I think it's slightly different from Johnson who has more than proved himself capable as a senior list defender and is therefore worth persisting with. Even if Perris were to get form and fitness sometime in the future, he'd be pretty low on the pecking order for senior selection.

You'd hope Melbourne, or any other club, picks up Perris if we don't re-draft him. He's a handy player.

Gives us the extra pick and points at the draft table and also frees up a couple of rookie slots.

From an academy perspective I'd like to see us at least rookie list two rookies on top of us recuiting Mills, Hebron and Baron-Hay perhaps?

I'm not surprised about McClaren. He simply couldn't take a contested mark and didn't look to have much hope of making it to senior level. Perris must have been due to his knee issues, because he certainly had the talent.

As nice as it would be to draft academy kids, I can't see Hebron or Baron-Hay as AFL material. I would easily pick Tom Young before either. I hope we give Marsh another shot as a rookie. He made good progress last year. I think we just needed to create another senior spot for the draft. I really don't know why we didn't delist Tom Derickx and redraft him as a rookie. Maybe there's some technicality with his contract.

I think they should of cut AJ and picked him up in the rookie draft...He's highly unlikely to play any senior footy next year.

I suspect he's on an absolute minimum salary and we needed his low salary to help with the salary cap.

It seems that a lot of teams intend to redraft delisted players as rookies this year, so I think everyone will be concentrating on keeping their own rather than chase someone else's.

Have to agree with this. Marsh is ready to play (given an opportunity) and AJ is not. Maybe I'm missing something though.

That is true for 2016 - but if you assume (I know its a big assumption) that AJ will be right to go from 2017, then it would be arguably a far greater risk to delist him than Marsh at this stage, who has yet to play an AFL game and is completely unproven at AFL level.

I realise that different clubs have differing situations and objectives but....

It's interesting that Fremantle, who are in the same boat with Morabito, have chosen to delist him with the view to re draft him.

I think it would be less likely that another club would jump in on an AJ or Morabito, given the loyalty of their clubs, over many years, and the appreciation the players have shown....

Not to mention the high risk of re-injury they both possess.

Wow! Admirable ruthlessness. I feel for Lloyd - he has a lot to offer. I hope we do rookie Marsh and give him a bit more of a chance as a reward for his development and evident responsiveness to the coaches although I can't claim that based on what I have personally witnessed I think he is being hard done by - I'm more going on his winning NEAFL MVP for the Swans (he did eventually come out on top didn't he?)

As for McLaren I just never saw him show enough spirit - I found him quite disappointing the 2 games I got a look at him live. But that is a small sample and who knows what might have been going on for him.

I do hope they pick up Marsh again. Saw him marshalling (sorry) the troops in a late ressies game and thought that he was showing natural leadership qualities. I hope his ability to play at AFL level lifts as I rather think its there.....just not quite yet.

Hells bells, we delisted and redrafted Amon Buchanan and he ended up kicking us the winning goal in the 2005 Granny (THEN Leo took the saving mark, but Monty got us ahead first) so there is always hope for the kid. And how many times was Luffy delisted and picked up again - three wasn't it?

All clubs HAVE to lose certain number of players at the end of the season, that's the stupid rules.

However One thing I have learned about Swans and Drafting. Never jump to conclusions when trying to read the play. they are cunning buggers......
