    Pushing for Selection

I too was sad not to see Dunkley join the club but ultimately I have faith in the club and its selections as I have felt this way before. I think back to the time we let Veszpremi go, Lewis Johnston, or Ricky Mott, even Ryan Fitzgerald, Jed Lamb, Tim Membery and Shane Biggs, players you think if given the chance, or if things go their way, could become club legends or at the very least very useful players, but most of the time the club as got it right. The only players I can think of that we have voluntarily let go that have become better players, or at least matched their Swans playing level, are Dempster and Schneider but the 2012 Premiership means the club probably got that right too. The draft is another gamble all together and you never know who the club could have selected but given we had the choice to select Dunkley and chose not to, I have faith that we have made the right decision. Only time will tell.

      Kinnear is a dead-set genius.
If Eddie really wanted to cripple us, he'd take Kinnear Beetson.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Forget the points matching. The AFL should just scrap the father-son rule if it's meaningless.
By pissed do you mean drunk? As pissed is Australian slang for drunk. Pissed off is the Australian slang. Pissed is American and should be reserved for American Football, Basketball and Baseball only.

I don't think it matters. I for one have never been in favour of the father/son rule. When Sydney, West Coast, Freo, Adelaide, Port & Bears were introduced to the comp and the VFL changed it's name to the AFL only clubs in Melbourne had father/son selections. This was amended so if a player had played in the SANFL, WAFL his son could play for the state comp sides. Bears became Lions and players with Fitzroy fathers could now play for Brisbane same as ex-South Melbourne players sons could play for Swans.

In today's market it seems stupid to carry a tradition that comes from the old VFL. The academies are different. The clubs with academies actually pay to educate their young charges. If the AFL made all the interstate academies a part of the AFL Academy (they really are still the VFL aren't they,) which is paid for by the AFL to benefit mainly Victorian teams, at this stage maybe all this stupid bidding system wouldn't be necessary. All academies would be paid for by the AFL. Yes, we'd lose young local talent but we'd also gain talent too. The other thing is that talent might just want to come home after a couple of years like the Victorian, SA & WA kids do.

So I am not peeved that Swans didn't pick Dunkley up. He was superfluous to our needs anyway. we don't need any more inside mids at this stage. We need outside runners. We got one Leonardis who fits our needs in two ways, he is fast and he is a good kick. Dawson is another kid who has very good disposal skills and he actually knows how to kick a goal. Unfortunately one season up here with our @@@@ty skills and neither sill probably be able to hit the side of a barn. HAHA

And Essendon just picked him because they hate Carlton. They knew that no one would pick him and thought stuff you Carlton you can use pick 53 on him, because if you don't the members of Carlton will burn the place down.

We got Tom Papley; grandfather/son rule. Boy, he got drafted so must have some some of his grand dad's ability. This is exciting.

The reason you shouldn't be pissed is that the club picked up some key talents the squad are currently lacking; disposal efficiency, left-footers, pacy players.
Dunkley didn't satisfy the criteria so they made the right decision.

Sydney weren't "introduced to the comp". South Melbourne relocated from South Melbourne to Sydney. ie the whole team & its identity moved.
It's no different from Hawthorn moving from Glenferrie to Waverly. We just moved further. & sure the Swans also changed their name from South Melbourne to Sydney ... but the Hawthorn changed their name from the Mayblooms to the Hawks. Both are still the same teams.

Never realised he was Max's grandson. This is exciting.

A better comparison would be if Hawthorn relocated to Tasmania as South Melbourne moved interstate. I don't think it's really the same to be honest

My point was Sydney is the same club as South Melbourne. The move is just part of their history. Sydney isn't a new club

Forgive me if has been said before, but what is Dunks senior so aggrieved with the club for?
For such a great servant of the club, sad to see.....

Max Papley was a gun player. Would have played a lot more games for the Swans had the club not had issues with his cricket pursuits. Hope his grandson is as good.....I too am excited, as, by all accounts is Tom himself, to be drafted to his beloved Swans. Great stuff.
