I really felt quite sick when I read the headline. With this kind of journalism why castigate fans for booing Adam Goodes Not a mention of the fact that Round 3 is the first game of the season at the SCG - no just let's go back to the 'he picked on a 13 year old girl' day and make it the highlight of your piece. Every media outlet is running the same story!! Is there a determination on the part of some to make sure that Adam will be jeered and misrepresented to the very last moment he puts a foot on a footy field. Well, I know Swans' fans will do him proud on the day.Comment

Dear Adam,
You've retired from the AFL, and we get to say goodbye to you in round 3 this year. It'll be a great day, and when you walk off, keep walking - as far away from the AFL as you'd like.
They don't deserve you. You're so much better than that.
ThanksComment

It's hard to know how much you should read into it (the article on the AFL website). I'm not sure who writes the articles for the website, or if there is even an "editor" within the AFL news organisation. But it's probably safe to say there are aren't too many Pulitzer winning writers or Mensa members in AFL House.
The upside though is that it's likely Adam got to choose where he wanted to farewell his fans, and not surprisingly he chose
the SCG.Comment

The lack of editing bugs me. It wouldn't be too difficult to have a quick edit done before publication.

I am going to send an email to the Swans media department expressing my strong disappointment in the article on the AFL website. I realise it's not come from them, but I would like to think they might contact the AFL media team to express their disappointment in the headline and the gist of the article. I have zero faith that a complaint directly to the AFL.com.au media team will even be read, let alone responded to.Swannies for life!Comment

Goodesy Again
I too felt very angry this morning when I read that nasty portrayal of the announcement of the date and place of Adam's farewell. The correct and appropriate presentation of the coming celebration of his career is on the Swans' website:
"It will be a fitting farewell for Goodes, having played more games than any sportsperson of any code at the SCG, the club?s spiritual home, and having held the role as SCG Ambassador for the past several years."

Someone probably mentioned in passing that the farewell lap was in round 3, the second home game and joked that it was because they didn't want @@@@ingwood fans there.
Then lazy journalism made it a fact.
I'm glad it's at the SCG, and I look forward to a repeat of the atmosphere we had at the Adelaide game.

When I read it earlier today, the Herald-Sun, The Age and AFL website all attributed the article to AAP. So its some nameless, faceless twerp. However Neil Cordy seemed to add a little extra sauce on the article and pin his name to it. (Whose side is he on?)
Meanwhile, back at the SCG a couple of days back, Adam put his head down and started hitting sixes, earning another BOG performance as some Swans legend cricket team beat a touring Maasai side. Well played Adam, just keep on rising above the bull dust and knocking 'em out of the park.Comment

By the way, if you haven't read this description about the cricket match on the SCG against the Maasai, it sounds as if it was great fun. Sadly I go to a class Thursday evenings so couldn't go to watch it. Because the current players were at Coffs, the Swans' team was made up of past players etc. Sounds as if a BBL career could be Goodes' next venture!
"Goodes however was judged man of the match for a starring performance with the bat which included the two-time Brownlow Medallist reportedly hitting six sixes. Two made it onto the roofs of the Members Stand and Ladies Pavilion."

Well done Liz - or whomever - the Swans took some action to try to squash this stupid, nasty description of Adam's farewell lap of honour.

Of course, we could take a conciliatory attitude and move our round one clash to the nostalgic and convivial atmosphere of Victoria Park.

Why would he want to do a farewell lap at the ANZ Stadium our home ground is the SCG where he has played most of his games.
Geelong play 3 home games a year at the MCG, one is generally the first game of the year against Hawthorn, do you think when a Geelong player retires that he does a farewell lap there or does he wait till they have their first game at Kardinia Park? I think I know which one it would be.Comment

Neil Cordy might get a frosty reception the next time he's at the Swans. I'm not sure how much he had to do with it but putting your name to that crap is pretty ordinary.Bloods
