On Saturday I walked past the "Bus Loop Oval" (practice field outside the SCG) and discovered that the Western Wing has beeen taken over by the building site for the new Tram line. Is this a temporary situation of has the Western Wing been lost forever to the new Tram line? The whole SCG precinct is going to be redeveloped as well starting with the (now stupid) footbridge that was seemingly a white elephant but will join up to the light rail and other expansions. There are a few discussions to pinch land from Kippax lake which is anyones guess if it will go ahead, but seems thats what the State govt is working towards.
Are the Swans match training simulations being impacted by losing the Western Wing at their training oval?
Are the Swans being compensated at all by the State Government or the Centennial Parklands for the loss of the Western Wing?Comment

Are you for real? I wonder if the Swans even pay to use it. Be pretty rich to seek compo.
However didn't the Swans say something about looking for a new training base? Or was that just a new venue for NEAFL matches? All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

The "Bus Loop Oval" is part of the Centennial Parklands. The Swans would have to pay for the ground hire of that Oval. Other sporting clubs and schools who use Centennial parklands and grounds have to pay for it.
The oval is compromised due to the tram construction. It does not seem to having an impact on performance at this stage.Comment

I don't think the Swans train on that oval during the season. They have full access to the SCG. Its importance as a training venue is during the summer months, when cricket has control of the SCG. I imagine any restrictions on this oval may affect the academy training, however.Comment

Tried spotless yesterday. It was good. Easy to get to. Drive straight in. No queues getting out. Disappointing crowd of only 13000 but i enjoyed it because it's always fun watching hawthorn getting done.
Small grounds and small crowds have a certain intimacy which is nice.Comment

Agree Barry, we watched Swans v GWS there last year and it was a great atmosphere. There's much better catering too, at least better than we get in the Victor Trumper stand.Captain, I am detecting large quantities of win in this sectorComment
