In the reserves game he was often in open space with no one around him and followed team instructions by bringing the ball to ground instead of taking an uncontested mark. He went to ground when our midfielders had the ball allowing them space to kick over his prone body. What more does the bloke have to do? The only thing that could account for his non-selection is that there are no modeling gigs in Adelaide.
Hmmm, perhaps it's part of cunning plan, where he's going to be our secret weapon against Adelaide. But to achieve this, we have to keep his presence a secret.

Despite what some on here think, McVeigh is a class footballer and despite no game time this year will almost certainly give us more than Jones, certainly no brain fades!

You don't gift games because it's your home town, we are here to win not play nice guys. Hewett didn't deliver last week and Towers was stiff to get dropped, did the right thing with a very good game in the ressies and we need his pace. Hewett will be back, just needs to keep up a high standard in the ressies now.

Rose stiff not to be an emergency, next cab off the rank probably so want him to play ressies this week not sit in the Adelaide Oval stands.

Choosing Leonardis as one of the travelling emergencies implies that no one is under an injury cloud and we can expect the selected side to play, unless someone goes down on the day. Leonardis hasn't done anything to earn selection, so it's more to give him the experience of the away game routine.

I thought if McVeigh was chosen, the best replacement would be for Jones. I have no problem Macca not playing in the reserves. Mark Murphy didn't have any practice matches and played a great round 1 game, to give but one similar example.

I though Hewett had 3 good games, even though he didn't rack up many stats in the last one. But Towers is a good replacement, as it brings more speed into the side. I don't think Hewett is a good forward option as he isn't a good lead up mark. Towers should get a slower matchup, like Cheney, and hopefully he can take advantage of it. The bigger ground should also help Towers.

Rose probably had a better game than Towers, but Rose plays a lot like Heeney, while Towers gives us something different because of his raw speed.

I'd like to see Jones play forward and Hewett play off halfback in the reserves game. I feel these are better options for them than the ones they've played in the senior side so far. Both would do fine in the midfield, but it's do difficult to break into our midfield atm.

So Ludwig, you assume that McVeigh is a certain starter. I look it a little differently. Jones as an emergency tells me that he may be there in case McVeigh sneezes on the flight or re injures himself in the warm up.

I think that the 2 changes are the obvious changes. Hewett was not much chop last week so Towers in, playing the similar role was a logical choice.

Jones flying with the ressies to Queensland. Leonardis is the traveling emergency.

fully agree with this analysis. McVeigh is an elite user of the ball and we don't have a plethora of them

Happy enough with that but unlucky call for both of them, rate Deano above George at this stage and Jarrad has to come back in for mine

Usually only 1 or two of the named emergencies travel to Adelaide. I've never seen all 3.

As Ugg has already pointed out, Jones has been named in the ressies squad, while the other 2 have not. We usually travel with 1 ruckman and another player. So it looks to be Nanka and Leo this week.

There's no point in naming Macca if he wasn't fit to play. He's been training for a while. The only question was whether he would play in the reserves or the seniors.

Having said that, they wouldn't be naming him there if they were not happy with him and he seems like the sort of kid who responds well to some positive re-enforcement.

Well done Tyrone for knuckling down and making a go of your AFL career.

Having McGlynn, off 1 senior game, and McVeigh , off nothing for 7 months....In a big game, which is sure to be fast and intense....That's a big risk IMO.

I don't like players being given the call on playing or not...They all hate missing games.

It's a no brainer, they'll nearly always think they're ready.

It should be a coach and selection committee decision, made with clear unemotional thinking.

I do like the selection of Tyrone Leonardis as an emergency, love the way he moves and delivers the footy, he looks a really good prospect to me.

I wonder if it's a bit of a "horses for courses" situation with Towers that saw him dropped last week and recalled this.

Actually I think it was a bad selection decision that gets young Georgie dropped. They played him on Heath Shaw, the most experienced backman in the GWS side. Not only that Georgie was never going to be able to match Shaw's pace. Towers or Rose on the other hand could.
