I was thinking the same thing about Kennedy. If he's got any little problems then rest him for the Hawthorn game. How much of Kennedy not playing is about getting him right for next weekend v the Hawks? I'm guessing that they've picked a team to beat Richmond without him. And how much of the other selections are about the future rather than this game?
I seem to remember Riewoldt kicking 2 or 3 on Teddy so quickly last year that they had to move him off and put Rampe on him.
The Tigers are not a particularly fit team, nor are they quick. Bringing in Towers and Hiscox could be challenging for Richmond if they just run them hard all game. They are likely to lay down in the 4th qtr like they did against Hawthorn. Richmond had a few good bursts against a very weak Hawthorn side, missing Frawley, Mitchell, Hodge and Roughhead. Otherwise I thought they were poor and had loads of trouble stopping anything coming into their defensive 50. Rance will be a big in for them, but with Houli and McIntosh out and if Vlastuin plays in the midfield again, their back six will have a very different look to it. It's hard to imagine them being able to contain a bevy of different players rushing forward.
We might see Hewett playing more in the midfield this week, which would be more natural for him, with both Hiscox and Towers playing HF and running the wings. Even with Kennedy out, we still have plenty of inside ball winners. He's a great player, but actually not too difficult for us to cover due to our depth in this area.Comment

In Hewett, Heeney and Mills, we have three young players whose natural position is probably in the midfield. Between them, they should be able to rotate through to provide some cover for JPK (big loss though he is).
Also worth noting that Mitchell played a very outside game last week. His stats indicate that the vast majority of his possessions were uncontested (and he had a lot of them). He's a natural ball winner at stoppages, so I'd expect him to take up a fair bit of slack from Kennedy's absence with a change of role.Comment

Despite appearances indicating the contrary, Mitchell's actually played a very uncontested style of game all year. In fact with only 34.5% his possessions being contested, he is 5th at the Swans for uncontested possession rate behind Jones, McVeigh, Cunningham and Lloyd.Comment

That's very surprising. Was the same true last year?Comment

In 2015 Mitchell had a contested possession rate of 36.9% ranked 13th of the 32 Swans to play a senior game. So his CP% rate has gone down. Strangely, the rest of the team has gone the other way:
Swans in 2016 contested possession rate of 42.03%, ranked 2nd in the AFL
Swans in 2015 contested possession rate of 35.54%, ranked 16th in the AFLComment

Mitchell 35 possessions, 3 goals. The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment
