Ted has played one game since that BOG, which was Saturday night for goodness sake. It took him a couple of games to get going before he got injured in that match, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt. When the midfield was giving no protection at all on Saturday night, you could have had anybody down there the All Australian Team of the Century Defence and even they would have struggled, given the nature of modern footy.

It's looking more likely that Rohan will play this week with positive stories leaking out and no reserves game. The Hawks will have a young side with plenty of good matchups for him. With Reg taking the resting ruckman, there really isn't a good matchup for Ted. Their 2 'tall' forwards, Gunston and O'Brien are better defended by quicker players. I think we struggle with Reg, Ted and Laidler all in the side when playing against quicker forwards, especially at the MCG. I doubt that we will drop Ted, although I think it would be the right option.
I would also be inclined to bring in another player in from Rose, Marsh or Newman and give Papley a rest this week. I don't think Hiscox or Towers warrant another game and we should start looking for players that have something more to offer than those two.

Reg is more than good enough to play the loose defender role when he doesn't have a match up. Reads the play well, goes for his marks and kicks well enough.Comment

I think I heard somewhere that Cyril will be back and Daniel Rioli (Richmond) will miss to be with a sick relative. Maybe they are swapping.Comment

We need to change our game plan.
Over the last 3 weeks, I've seen 2 games live, and one on TV (Essendon).
Each game has shown the same thing.
We are killed in turnovers for leg speed and skill.
Even the bombers tore through us for at least one half of the game.
The tigers were a little slow to get things moving, but when they did we had no answer.
They all chipped around and found targets with ease. Too many loose players. Where were our loose players??
We seem to bang it forward and hope that buddy or Heeney can weave some magic, which they have been doing, but they have had to work hard for it.
And hear I'll put my Nico hat on. Win it out of the centre FFS, we got smashed at this on Saturday.
Even when we did win one it was a scrappy rush it forward under pressure, where as the tigers were able to clear it 5 times in 8 minutes for 5 goals in Q4.
We were abysmal.
We have only won the 2 out of those 3 because the Bombers were crap after half time, and extremely lucky against the lions.
I know Kennedy was missing on Sat, but we just didn't look like getting a clear possession in the centre all too often.
It's a new game on Sat, but if we play like the last 3 weeks, we are in for a hiding.Comment

I get the feeling, from what I've read this week, Rohan will be back in ,
McGlynn may be another week away with a cork on a cork...ouch.
Which would probably mean....
OUT : Towers, Hiscox
IN : Kennedy, Rohan
Agree with others we should "rest" either Grundy or Richards this week, probably Grundy. We don't need both against Hawthorn. Doubt it will happen though.
Another possibility would be Rose or BJ in for Papley, who hasn't had much impact lately.Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MTComment

Rohan's terrific record against Hawthorn should assist us
I'd say we'd all be a bit more confident if Towers had kicked it to Buddy the other night. It's amazing what losing does. If we play the way we have over the last three weeks, we'll get flogged but footy's not as simple as that.Bloods

It will be interesting to see what effect Roughie's news will have on the Hawks. It's a very hard game to pick a winner. Swans $2.50 Hawks $1.35 on SB.Comment

Grundy out? I bet the Hawks would love to see that. Who, out of our regular defenders is a better kick? Mills maybe? Macca? not regular down back.
If Ted doesn't have direct opponent that would be an almost perfect set up for him. Playing loose and taking intercept marks is some of his best traits. I would be very happy with him having no direct match up.
As much as it annoys me, I think Towers needs a run of games, knowing that he is not guaranteed a game each week can't be doing his confidence any good when Papley, Hewitt and Robinson (before injury) all get continuous games. Then if he still doesn't show anything move him on.
I may be wrong, but wasn't Andrejs given simlar treatment when playing for us? With the Blues he has been given a lot of games and I, for one, would love to have him back."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Beerman 18-07-2017Comment

Have read a lot of stuff here about how slow we are and the hawks will blow us away, well I seem to recall a few weeks ago when the hawks got towelled by 70 plus by GWS a team who is quick we managed to put away by 4 goals plus .I agree we missed Joey last week and our midfield was down apart from Hanners so to put most of the blame on Ted and Reg is unfair ...we have lost two games this season ,one by a kick and a bit ,the other by a point from a team playing their grand final , I am very confident we will bounce back on Friday night INS Kennedy, Rohan, Mcglynn. Outs Towers ,Hiscox,Papley[rest]Comment

We are slow when the ball hits the ground especially Reg and Ted - we will be OK this week if everybody works to together - if one part breaks down then we are in trouble - when we are good we cover and support well - don't need heroics from Rampe and Mills with some of their marking attempts - they have not stuck too many yet !! That's Heeney's domain and Buddy well if he took all his marking attempts he would even better lolComment
