Given the form shown by Membrey and Biggs and the young guys that have fitted in straight away all clubs are going to be looking at poaching our young players - clubs are going to be looking for players that cant get a regular game at the Swans rather than Brisbane , Gold Coast as our development program is clearly better than others - especially with some clubs accessing a full salary cap for the first time in a long time - it was only a matter of time

You merely have to look at the AFL rookie list article, to see we have no one to delist.

Certain clubs, Richmond, Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast need a complete make over.

Most other clubs need a few more and look at our list and lick their lips.

Make no doubt, the offers will come this trade period for our players and coaches.

From what I can see, he is a bit too slow ...

but the is probably the only knock on him, and with a good footy brain speed of hand and foot can overcome foot speed. Not saying it will happen but footballer >>> athlete?

Lots of ruckmen are slow. Not all of them, but certainly enough decent ones to indicate it doesn't have to be an impediment. He's very young for a ruckman at AFL level. Even the highly lauded ruckmen of recent years were mostly considered fairly duddish until well into the 20s - including the likes of Cox and Sandilands. For him to already have played a handful of senior games, and to have equipped himself pretty competently in most of them is a credit to him. He has lots of development still required, and he may not ever get to the necessary standard but the early signs are pretty darned reasonable.

He really was excellent in last weekend's game against the Suns. I confess that I took no notice of who his opposition was, but that's not entirely relevant to how he approached the game and the variety of skills he was able to demonstrate - most noticeably how active he was at stoppages (especially centre bounces) once the initial contest had happened. I think the stats that Ugg published showed he had the most (or second most) clearances for the team. Just as Aliir's confidence and all around game improved significantly when he returned to the reserves after his initial couple of senior games, so too does it look as if Toby's brief flirtation with senior football has instilled in him a greater understanding of what he needs to do to win a spot back and a determination to do so.

Geez Nankervis has been a great acquisition for the Tiges. Not only has he quickly become their best ruck it now seems he's become pretty much their only ruck after all the others apart from Cat B rookie, Ivan Soldo, have succumbed to injury.

Hate to join in the Tippett bashing but it's a shame we couldn't have offloaded Kurt and kept Toby for half the price. I do see the value that Tippett offers, but I just think Toby's a bit of a Mummy clone, a real bash and crash ruckman with some mongrel, which Kurt doesn't offer.

I agree he doesn't have anywhere near the talent that Tippett does, but I feel we've really missed that bash and crash ruckman since Mummy left. Kurt doesn't bare all of the blame but he hasn't been great in the 2 grand finals he's played for us, whereas I think the style of footy that Toby plays suits finals football. Clark Keating/Ben Mcevoy/Darren Jolly have been good examples of it

Tend to agree that he wasn't as dispensible as the Swans thought. If they hadn't recruited Sinclair, which did make sense at the time but now looks a dud deal, he would still be with us.

No point lamenting about Nankervis. We all knew he was developing into a decent ruckman. But the fact is that he would still be fighting Sinclair for the number 3 ruckman at the Swans. I thought we made a mistake acquiring Sinclair, but Longmire likes having lots of ruckman on the list. So be it. I wish Nankervis the best of luck and hope he does well. He's off to a good start. As for us, we traded Nankervis for a draft pick and got Darcy Cameron. So far Cameron looks as he might be even better than Nankervis. He certainly is more agile and a better goal kicker. We can review this in a couple of years.

If Cameron develops well, I would like to see if we could trade Sinclair and get another young ruckman in his stead. I would give him to anyone willing to pay his salary. He's on a sizable contract though, but might be willing to go to get a chance to play. Maybe Richmond is a good destination for him as well. I completely agree with your first para and would add that Cameron has the advantage of being about 2 inches taller than Nank as well, which is important. I think height was an important factor in our choice of Naismith and, later, Galloway. Obviously height is not enough but, especially with the abolition of the third man up rule it is very useful for winning hitouts.

Not so sure about jettisoning Sinclair though. It is a pity to be wasting so much salary cap space on a NEAFL player (especially if Cameron has overtaken him) but the depth is useful. So I would certainly consider trading him but I think we need more than a project player as a replacement. MP's scouting pick, Liam Maze, has been among the best players in his recent games so he remains one to watch. I'm not sure how old or how tall he is and how far off ever potentially being ready to play AFL.

There has developed a wide range of views from head coaches on the value of ruckmen in recent times. Longmire falls into the camp of placing high value on them. Luke Beveridge, for example, would fall into the other camp. I'm happy carrying 4 ruckmen, but I think the 4th should be a young developing ruckman rather than one who is ready, or thinks he is ready, to play at senior level. It just causes a problem and one of your ruckmen will look for opportunities elsewhere, as Nankervis has.

I think Sinclair is in this position right now. I don't think he's good enough to be in the best 22 of a contending side, although Hawthorn have done well enough with similar caliber players, like Ceglar. If Sinclair could improve his contested marking, he wouldn't be far off. I haven't seen anything of Liam Maze, but will trust the reports that he's a good prospect. I believe he is 19 this year as he was eligible for last year's draft. He sounds like the kind of player who would better fill that 4th ruck spot. Shame that Hawthorn picked up Tony Alongo.
