Damn, out of all the teams we could've been matched up against we get the Giants.
I have real concerns playing them. They seem to be able to really get them selves "up" for games against us. They will be niggly and annoying and Benny will get sucked in a miss the finals because he thumped Shiel. :-(
I am probably grumpy because the @@@@ing Hawks scraped through for another win, argghhhhh!

So the big question now is which day will our local derby final be on ?

As long as it's not Thursday night I'll be there. Please AFL don't play the minor premiers on Thursday night at ANZ. It will be a dud crowd. Lucky to get 30000 if on Thursday night. Saturday game should attract 50000 at least although I'd be hopeful all the members will come and support and 60000 is possible

Jon Ralph says swans will play Saturday afternoon at ANZ. Go figure finish 1st and if we lose we have a shorter break than Eagles and dogs finishing 6th and 7th as that is scheduled for Thurs night

It's fine by me. I think a Thursday night game in Sydney would be terribly attended

Loser of Swans Giants will play the Kangaroos/Crows winner. The AFL is at real danger of compromising the finals with their obsession with a Thursday night final, as there is every chance a lower team could get more break going into week 2 of the finals than the team coming from the qualifying final. That to me compromises the finals, even with the bye before their commencement.

Every team is about to get a week off, and they'll be nice and fresh for the first week of the finals. I doubt a shorter break the following week is going to make a whole lot of difference, especially with no travel involved (for us, if we have to play that weekend). But I'd prefer to have confidence that we'll give the Giants a lesson in week 1 on what finals footy is about.

Still sucks - but i am with you and hope we give Giants a finals lesson too.

I agree it won't make a significant impact on the actual outcomes, but it is compromising the finals if a team from the bottom 4 gets a greater advantage then the team from the top 4.

If that is created all for the sake of the AFL's obsession with 'massaging the product', which a Thursday night final fits into - then I don't like it.

Its a bit like the old 'actual conflict of interest' vs 'perceived conflict of interest' adage - while 99% of them fall into the 2nd category than the first, its the perception that the AFL is willing to compromise the finals integrity in such a way that I don't like.

I'm not even sure why they would want to schedule a Thursday night final? Surely all the normal times for finals would draw better crowds? Maybe somebody in management wrote on their CV, that they were a wholistic innovation specialist, and they've just realised that they haven't done any innovating?

We should be playing on the Friday night, but it won't matter if we win, which we will.

TV audiences. Pure and simple. Us folk that actually go to games are second class citizens to the couch potatoes, it would seem.

The loser of our game will play the winner of Adelaide v North, which is on Saturday night. Winner of Doggies v Eagles will get an extra days rest compared to loser of Geelong v Hawthorn, but then have travel thrown in anyway.
