People are ready to wash their hands of Hiscox because of one relatively poor debut?

I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time -
As a second round pick I think Hiscox would have received a three year deal from the Swans.Comment

Most regular reserve watchers have washed their hands of Hiscox because of consistent underwhelming performances in the seconds. How he ever got selected to make his debut remains of one of the great mysteries of 2016...Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Ressie watchers - is Hiscox actually making any progress?
X & Marsh were gone two months ago, now renewals.
Galloway as a Cat B rookie was always a project player so likely to get another year.
Melican still quite young for a KPD so likely to get a third year, particularly given he has had injury problems hold him back.
AJ could be moved to the rookie list to give us some flexibility, Ted retires, would think McGlynn is close to getting his papers stamped given the success of our youngsters, Derickx is gawn, Nankers to get an extension unless he jumps ship.
Maybe keep going with a main list of 38 plus 6 rookies plus the Cat B rookies. Interesting end of year for us, get a feeling we may only use our first two picks if they are not used in trading beforehand.Comment

He made his debut because two of our emergencies mysteriously disappeared and Hiscox came in from outside the 22.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment

My answer is that I can't see any significant improvement and progress - I just can't see him making it as an AFL player anytime soon.
I don't get to see as much ressies as someone like Ugg, but everytime I've seen him this year he has really underwhelmed me. Still look all 'athlete' and little 'footballer' to me. If I was making the decision, he'd be second out the door after Derricx."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Ahhhh, then that makes sense- I haven't really been following the magoos over the last couple of years and just assumed he must have done something half decent to warrant selection. The handful of times I've seen him in reserves he seemed relatively fine.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

Ted Richards retire
Ben McGlynn retire
Tom Derickx delist
Dean Towers keep
Tom Mitchell gone
Nic Newman upgrade to seniors
Xavier Richards keep (good back up to Reid)
Toby Nankervis keep (might go but we need him more than we think)
Daniel Robinson keep
Harrison Marsh keep
Jack Hiscox delist
Abaina Davis keep
Lewis Melican not sure, cant seem to get on the park, delist?
Jordan Foote keep
Kyle Galloway delist
Sam Murray keep
Colin O?Riordan keep (will probably get upgraded to senior mid season)Comment

If reports about the latest op are correct, surely we won't abandon AJ at this stage, after sticking with him for so long. Maybe move him back to the rookie list for '17, with a promise to re-promote in 2018 should all things go well with the recovery."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I seem to remember that there was some talk about the rookie list players being able to be selected (all of them, if required) in the senior side.
I think that a change was required by AFL Headquarters to make this change - is anyone aware of this ??Comment

This would require an increase in the salary cap (irrespective of any other increase in the cap, as draftees are paid more than rookies). The proposal didn't get up in the last collective bargaining negotiations but from public utterances it sounds as if it may be under consideration in the current discussions which are expected to be concluded by end of the year.Comment

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to - but the players' association has been pushing for some years to have the rookie list abandoned and senior list numbers expanded (so in general go to a senior list of 44).

The main thing driving the players' association is their claim that rookies have the same workload as senior players and so should be paid the same as senior draftees when they are recruited. That's why they want one list without the rookie differentiation. What you suggest may suit the clubs/AFL vey well (44 players from whom to select) but would not meet the players' pay demands.Comment

Gil the puppet will sit down with Eddie and co and make whatever decision on the rookie list that best suits the needs of the Melbourne clubs. To think otherwise is fanciful...Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment
