It seems his body, like his brothers, struggles with the stress AFL puts on it.....

IMO, if we can find a suitable deal, we should trade him.

We've burnt Collingwood a few times lately.....One more for the road Eddie?
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

He's probably worth more to us as a semi fit player than he'd be worth at the trade table. At the end of last year he'd have given us a first rounder at least, but after missing an entire season with soft tissue injuries we'd struggle to find a suitor.

Before this season Reid had played 20+ games in all bar one of his seasons at Sydney (excluding his first season where he played 1 game as a kid). Yes, this season has been frustrating but the stats say Reid actually plays much more than he misses through injury. If he's fit, he's in our best 22 easily.

It's as good a spot as any.
If you have a problem, take it up with the mods.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Best way to describe him is "potential"
I think Reid is a keeper. When fit (and he largely has been until this season), he can be very damaging. I think he transcends the potential status. Would slot him into our best 22.

His comment was totally fair enough. Why not stick to the topic at hand?

            My changes:

            In: McGylnn
            Out: Papley

Richards could be swapped with his brother. We need one of them to maintain structure until Tippo or Reid comes back.

The only "delivery" of sorts was when he took a telling mark against Freo a few years back, to salvage a draw.
This is short of being considered a valuable member of the team.
(Hope he becomes injury free & delivers soon - i.e. next year.)
Sam Reid was one of the heroes of the 2012 season. His efforts throughout the year were not "potential", they were realised talent. He was also injury free.
His inability to get back to that level of fitness has been a root cause of his loss of form. This combined with the need to play him out of position and in roles to which he is unsuited have directly impacted on him seeming to be out of sorts.
It is unclear whether he can get enough match fitness before the finals campaign but if he is played out of the goal square with a mandate to get kicks up the ground, in other words play the same role he did 2012, he will be a force to be reckoned with, especially with Rohan and now Heeney as leading targets when Reid takes those contested marks.

Yet people still want him down back...?
2012, then......... um...... not all that much, except potential to get back to form.

I wish I could express just how much I dislike those changes. Obviously we all have our own opinions, but my thoughts would be that those changes are a massive regression. I love McGlynn but he has offered us very little all year, whereas Papley creates so much forward pressure in partnership with Rohan.

If Ted comes back it can only be to play as a defender. Some people question whether we need Sam Reid without realising we started Ted Richards at full forward against Hawthorn in a game we lost by 5 points. We've looked a lot better structurally the last couple of weeks with X Richards and Papley back up front.

                        Understand your perspective but disagree.

The last 2 weeks we have played weak teams, totally different comparison to Hawthorn.

When it comes to finals, we need hard bodied, experienced players. McGlynn and Teddy match this and will offer far more then X Richards and Papley. Remember I'm talking about this year, not next year.

On Sam Reid, I feel we are desperate to have him back. He is exactly what we need.

I think you are talking about 2015, not 2016.

Ted is not a 2016 forward (unless we play Geelong), and McGlynn is not a 2016 forward unless injuries happen.

Agree Ted isn't a forward however he is a better option then X Richards. Given Reid and Tippo are injured we have no one else better.

Yeah fair enough - my opinion is the complete opposite.

I do agree that we've played weak opposition for the past couple of weeks, but it's more a case of our forward structure being much improved. McGlynn of previous seasons would be a great asset, but this year he looks slow, runs out of gas, and has looked a shadow of his former self. Papley is faster, pressures harder, and generally makes an impact. He is still raw, but he's a kid coming off the rookie list so we can't expect polish. I just don't see McGlynn offering anything other than "experience".

Also think Xav has looked pretty good up front so far and is a better shot for goal than Ted.

Port Adelaide are undersized around the park.
Since Lobbe went down and now without Dickson, they have been forced to play a brand of football designed around this condition. They sweat on turnovers and bringing the ball to ground and then rushing it out to leading players. They then look to get the ball over the top to other runners retreating into their forward 50.
Rohan, Towers, Franklin, Heeney and Papley should be able to provide the inside 50 pressure to plague their disposal efficiency coming out of defence and assist in breaking down this system. X. Richards is not quick but playing from the goal square he has been able to exert pressure on their tall defenders. This may be moot against Port as they don't really have any.
If Lloyd is unavailable I believe they may go with B Jack before the finals to see if he is worth keeping at this level or if he should be let go. If X is to go perhaps Newman or Leonardis may be tried for similar reasons.
