This match is so much about horses for courses as I see it.

I like Rampe v Cameron, Grundy v Paton and Allir v Lobb. Also in the backline, Smith v Greene, Mills v Smith and McVeigh v Johnson.

I actually like Jones for Marsh if he can play in NEAFL this week and prove his fitness.

Midfield looks after itself except maybe Cunningham on Shiel and Lloyd on Whitfield as lockdowns.

My greatest fear is their run off half back. Heeney, McGlynn and Papley need to be defensive all game. At Spotless it was their clearance rate and run off the back of the square that destroyed our defensive structures.

Lloyd has been playing in the backline and McVeigh in the midfield for the good part of the past two months now. I don't see that changing for this game.

Cunningham is getting so little of it recently he must be in the gun, unless he is doing lockdown roles I'm missing?

I'd prefer Laidler ahead of both Cunningham and Marsh.

          In. Laidler Mills.
          Out. Cunningham Marsh.

Against the quick Giants I think we need to keep Richie Cunningham in.
McGlynn has been playing really good footy IMO and has earned his place for the time being.
I can only see Marsh making way for Mills, assuming Callum can get over his injury during the bye.

I worry that Whitfield or Scully have the pace to win the contest against McVeigh if that is the match up. I much prefer McVeigh's experience against Johnson. Maybe Cunningham on Scully and Hanaberry on Whitfield with LLoyd doing a run with on Shiel?

Whitfield may not be an issue after this morning's news.

I thought I read that he is free to play in either the age or news.com.au, but could be wrong (as I am often).

Of course he should be suspended for a week due to this drug hiding. In fact any GWS player who has visited Craig Lambert's home
should also be suspended for at least one week. he.. he.. ha!!!!

There's not much one on one play anymore. There will be some preferred matchups that each side will look for at stoppages, but as the play progresses, especially after a turnover, everything changes. I think Cunningham is likely to find himself in more difficult matchups than Marsh, like Johnson or Griffin, but might be better against a Scully or Smith racing into the forward line. Marsh has good pace, albeit not quite as quick as Cunningham.

The Giants will be tough to beat and we will have to bring a physical kind of game they haven't seen before. They can play a physical game as well, especially with Mummy in the ruck, but we will just have to go one level better. If we let them run amok, they will kill us. Forward pressure will be important, but we should do okay if Benny and Papley do their part.

I wonder how many times Horse will use the word 'pressure' in the next two weeks.

You'd imagine that Mills is a guarantee to come into the side but Harry Marsh played well! Then there's the Papley v McGlynn argument which on last weeks form is a no brainer but season form Papley would be in front! Has Towers papers been stamped after doing not a lot wrong the last few months with horse preferring the 2 smalls? And then there's Cunningham...been quiet the last few weeks. Will he keep his place?

Many questions to ponder in an otherwise pretty settled side. We can go a few ways which is handy and helpful if we decide to pick horses for courses and against certain opposition.

I'll go out on a limb and pick my side that will hopefully put us through to a S.C.G. Prelim final!

                          Out: Cunningham
                          In: Mills

Hard call because i do like Cunningham's speed and ball use but he hasn't been getting enough of it and i think that Marsh has good speed but extra height and neat foot skills to play his role. Mills obviously fits straight back in to where he has been in a great debut season.

Gotta stick with the 2 smalls after last week with Towers an unlucky emergency with Harry C.

                          What is everyone elses thoughts?

Picked it! Side picked on form so can't really argue with that!

Two players have been selected based on form against a disinterested richmond. Mcglynn and marsh. Im worried.

Who would you have the coaches pick instead, and based on what form line?

As u all know I've been a massive supporter of marsh..... Swampy always reminded me of a player in the lower grades that has the build, kick, mark, decision making that would be an AFL player but needed the excitement and atmosphere of AFL level to find himself ---- find his true calling

Ressies every other week he could look a little dis interested and didn't push himself

Zac jones could easily take his spot next game but for now he is the right inclusion for finals footy. He is playing with composure, playing strong one on one defence and he is a good match up for smalls and medium talls

Marsh also allows mills to push up a little more which is very exciting

                                Good luck marshy !!!!
