The bulk of their guns are old and on one year deals. Their highest paid player left when he was about to enter his biggest contract. They haven't got many young players who are going to command big deals.

The veteran's allowance is scrapped as well. The bulk of their guns must be playing for about $22.50 per game.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I know where you're coming from plugger, but wouldn't Lewis Rioli, Gunston, Frawley, Roughhead, McEvoy be on good dollars aside from the 'over the hill' brigade of Hodge Mitchell Gibson and Burgoyne?

I can see that they'd likely have some room of the veterans work in with their salaries but still wouldn't be swimming in cap space.

I really really hate online hawthorn fans, especially the 20-35 year old male type. God i hate them with a passion and hope Jaeger goes to the hwaks and bombs with many injuries.

Even when a discussion is not about the swans these little parasites somehow make it about the swans and then proceed to rubbish us. 2012 and us signing Buddy has really really broken them.

Certainly not swimming but they're a very different proposition to us. We've got two players on mega contracts, a handful of elite midfielders in their prime and two outstanding prospects who are going to be very well remunerated. They haven't got any of that.

They'll never, ever get over that Buddy didn't want to buy into that culture any more.

What's the feeling on Sam Murray getting another year?

He had a pretty reasonable game in the GF. I thought earlier in the year he tended to take too many long range potshots, burning teammates in the process. I think that was coached out of him to some extent and I'd be surprised if he didn't get another year...

I'd seen a bit of him as he's from my area, Murray Border. Considering he's the youngest on the list, never been in an Academy, never played TAC Cup, had one year of Ovens & Murray football and was injured during pre-season I'd think he's shown enough. He's always been a goal kicking midfielder and got away with that sort of stuff previously. On what I saw, maybe 6 or 7 games streamed, he's improved plenty as the year went on. When he tucks the ball under his arm and runs he can be pretty exciting. His skills aren't as silky as Dawson or Leonardis but I can see that improving.

He was played in defence midway through the year and I think that really improved his decision making as he was too far out to have a ping at the goals. His long kicking and pace are his strengths but I'm not sure it's enough to keep him on the rookie list.

Also is it my understanding that the rookie list maybe withdrawn and the teams just have a list of players to choose from.
I think the clubs are wanting that and the perception is that the rookie list will be obsolete from next year

                          Thanks for the insights wedge.

I've been watching him develop with interest as well and agree with everything you say. He has come from a very low base compared the other recruits and has come on in leaps and bounds. He is genuinely quick and a beautiful kick and seems to read the game well.

Probably the most notable change though seems to be the way that he has filled out and become physically stronger during the year. He's a keeper in my opinion.

I must say I am just amazed at how well we have recruited with this bunch of rookies. A number of them are already better than some players on the senior list and there are only one or two who look to not have a chance of making it.

Rookie list stays the same for 2017 season but will be reviewed next year. Rookie list gives clubs the opportunity to look at kids on a one year contract whereas if they are taken in the ND they get two year contracts which is too much for purely speculative kids.

If Rookie List disappears it will probably be that after the fourth round (pick 73 and out) contracts will only be one year.

I agree. I hope that we can convince him because I think he is developing nicely but I'm hearing he is probably going to want to play regular senior football next year or more regular than what he'd get here.

either way its ridiculous you cant just pick a player on your list without the need to elevate etc
