What level of defender does he currently have marking him I assume it's a higher rated one than what Membrey faces. I rate him as a keeper
Yes, I also rate X highly. Quick, constantly running to good positions and apparently has an excellent attitude. And one of my favorite bits of the Crows game, was when X got to the ball first, deep in our forward line. He was immediately set upon by a couple of Crows defenders. One of them knocked the ball from his grasp, but he managed to do a lovely two metre, rapidly improvised chip kick to Papley, who ran on and goaled.

X could easily back to a key defender possie in years to come also when Grundy is starting to slow down
Actually, I like the fact that X is doing the reverse Ted.

According to Scott Gullan Herald Sun reporter on Melbourne radio this morning said the Swans may deliberately have some players coming out of contract including Tom Mitchell as they have targeted a big name player for either this year or maybe next year. I don't know of any player out of contract this year that we might have secretly signed up like we did with Buddy.

          Only warming to the idea?????

Bruest is an absolute gun. Would absolutely love to have him.

Pure speculation. I would think we are trying to make cap space so that we can keep our young talent. Just imagine all of the Melbourne clubs coming for our midfield in the next couple of years - Mitchell is just an entree.

Ewwwwww Would not like him at the club - despite the footballer he is.

I won't be surprised if X establishes himself in our backline at some point. His one-on-one defensive work at NEAFL level was always pretty good and I was a little surprised he'd not had more opportunities to show this at senior level. I guess the main thing working against him in terms of filling a key defensive post at senior level is that, at the age of 24, he is still fairly lightly built. He looks more suited to a "third defender" type role, where athleticism and the ability to read the play are generally more important than one-on-one body strength. He's taller than most players who typically play that role, and could grow into more of a KPD role as he matures. (Ted was still relatively light and wiry at that age too - indeed, he's still not that big for someone who's played as a key defender so successfully).

Imagine a backline in a couple of years with X and AA as the two key tall defenders, with their mix of speed and athleticism. It's what NEAFL watchers have been treated to for the last couple of seasons, but both players have improved immeasurably this year and it really does look like it now could happen at senior level.

Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

I was actually think this myself last night that Xav at the very least provides us defensive cover - after all he has now shown that athletically and footy smarts wise he is definitely of AFL standard and given his background he could well end up down back again at some stage.

Of course the fact our defenders never seem to get injured is also a factor but it's nice having him as an option. I've been incredibly impressed with his skills and endeavour since he came in and he looks no way put of place, and his delivery by foot is excellent

Possible but I suspect unlikely, I tend to suspect that we'll need cash to secure the likes of Mills and Heeney but we may be clearing the decks, who knows?

Personally I'd prefer to see us keep developing our own, the emergence of our young list this year has been an absolute joy to watch, especially seeing someone like Xav become an overnight sensation after three years toiling away

Perfect fit. Gets to hide away from the melbourne media for a few years.

Ok, seriously look at the evidence:
                              - He now hates Melbourne and the intensity. Was the only player to deliberately spend the whole year outside of Melbourne.
                              Conclusion: wont play in melbourne.
                              - Hasnt committed to the dons. That means he is waiting for something. The only thing coming up is trade-period.
                              conclusion: Looking to be traded.
                              - Getting older, and would be chasing a premiership.
conclusion: Needs to go to a contender.

                              Forgone conclusion I'd say.

I get the feeling with Watson that he's going to retire and more than likely move back to NYC
